So they say

Anybody else have people/none mentally ill people try to tell you you don’t have schizophrenia or shouldn’t take your meds? I hate the nay sayers, “you don’t have schizophrenia” or “meds aren’t good for you, you can get through it without them” smh. They obviously don’t know much about mental illness

Yup. My mum is like that. And there’s been a few others over time who say things like that to me.

Can’t believe your mom would say that. All the people in my life who have said it weren’t around me while in a break @Ozzyskits

I don’t tell others to avoid those kind of reactions.

Nope. Quite the opposite. Everyone around me is Adamant that I DO have schizophrenia and I MUST take my medication. It’s a little annoying actually.

I don’t have positives at the moment but take medication anyway as a preventative.

My mum doesn’t believe I have schizophrenia.
She thinks I have autism and trauma.
She thinks medication may balance the brain .
She used to be against medication but now she seems to support it.

I used to be the nay sayers as I didn’t believe I had schizophrenia.

Took me over twenty years to accept diagnosis.

I thought my voices n delusions were real.

Most around me are supportive.

My former stepmother supports me heaps.

My dad hates most people that don’t work but he plays chess with a genius who doesn’t work and likes him and he doesn’t think I should work because he thinks I should avoid stress.

HE used to think I should work part time but he changed his mind when I tried working and ended up in hospital .
He is ok with me being on the pension and volunteering a bit I think.
He doesn’t respect people that don’t work and hates them usually but he made some exceptions perhaps.:open_mouth:

Yes, my ex says the same.
“you don’t need meds”
“you don’t look schizophrenic”

I really hate it when they tell me “you don’t look schizophrenic!” Yeah since when does a mental illness target certain faces? 🤦

My ex boyfriend used to call me a pill popper and I stopped for a few months. That turned out pretty bad

Ugh same. “You don’t look schizophrenic” oh I’m sorry, was I supposed to be wearing soiled rags and face painting with ketchup? What do they think we look like?

Everyone has always told me to take meds.

My problem was less a lack of realisation, by others, that I had a serious mental illness than it being seen as the kiss of death re future expectations . This was true of both my parents and the mental health professionals .

In the early years of illness, that I think are the optimal years of improving prospects, very.very little was done to bring out and maximise any potential I had.

Just once. A friend.

I’ve been told I don’t look schizophrenic by hospital staff, doctors, friends and my own mother.

She (my mother) has encouraged me to go off meds and try eastern medicine on several occasions.

It’s just ignorance.

These people are uneducated and weakly hearted and often religious. One of my friends is like that, I try to avoid him now, stopped calling him. He joins video calls with my other friends when I am there though, I just ignore him and change subject. My other friends understood the science behind sz I explained to them. Him he just says its psychological and religious, not medical, sometimes I laugh at him.
