So I am going to meet someone on a date, and we have been talking a lot online and on the phone. And today we talked about meds. I’m on Seroquel and he is on Abilify. He told me that it makes him hypersexual. And Im wondering if that is a good or a bad thing. I have been very horny since I changed my med from Zyprexa to Seroquel, so I think maybe it is a good thing that we both want sex. As you know it has been very difficul for me that I have not been able to sleep with my last two boyfriends because antipshycotics meds caused them sexual dysfunction. But I’m not sure I know what hypersexual means?

Maybe Im hypersexual too? I have been obsessed ever since I got off Zyprexa, but the psychiatric system says that it is not a side effect from Seroquel and therefore they cannot do anything to help it
Yes Abilify made me hypersexual, no one believe me here and they get mad at me blaming me for this medical problem. The only person who believed me and helped me is my pdoc, thats all I care about. The FDA stated Abilify can cause hypersexuality I posted FDA link yet no one believes me

On Abilify I kept thinking about sex 24/7. I watched porn all day even in public bathrooms. Now on risperidone I rarely think about sex, my sex drive is low

So your pdoc believes you? And he is an expert so he should know what he is talking about.
So did you like it or was it a burden to you? I find it difficul that I crave sex all the time. It is a big difference because when I was in Zyprexa I didnt care at all

But that sounds like me, I feel that I’m thinking about sex non stop. But the psychiatrist says that it is because of my weight loss, that I feel more selfassure and beautiful and not because of the meds

Yes I told him everything, he said the only solution is to stop the Abilify and it worked. I suffered for 8yrs from hypersexuality on Abilify, my first pdoc who put me on it said it can make me hypersexual but I didn’t believe him for 8yrs. Its hard talking about it.
Were you hypersexual before psychosis? I think psychosis can cause erotomania, I had it while psychotic.
Abilify is known to cause addictions, gambling addiction is one of them.

I didn’t believe my dr for 8yrs, I couldn’t believe a tiny pill can cause several addictions including sex. Brain chemistry is powerful and everything, there is behavioral neuroscience in medicine studying effects of chemicals on behavior.

@anon55055794 Maybe try psychotherapy for hypersexuality, I read it helps. Seroquel doesn’t cause hypersexuality
Hypersexual just means very horny and active sexually, not just with partners but also autoerotically.
Erotomania is an old word like schizophrenia, it is not necessarily a mania, it is a delusional subtype where you have unrealistic perceptions about others and your own affections.
Oh I added that because hypersexual seems like it should be called erotomania.
I’m not sure, but I think they called erotomania as it is because some people with it acted like a maniac ie violent as in Reagan assassin. History of psychiatry is interesting.
Psychiatry used to be inaccurate like that. Now they know delusion and mania to be comorbidities
