"Smoking is suicide"

I’m down to a piece of gum every three or four hours. I need to taper off the gum.

Thanks for the support!

The treatments aren’t required. Any treatment in healthcare is optional. No doctor will hold a patient at gunpoint demanding they do a specific treatment. (If one does contact an attorney and you shouldn’t have to work anymore) Not every person with a poor prognosis has nothing to live for. Many have people depending on their income and support. And even the one’s who felt they have nothing to live for don’t want to die the way their particular cancer will cause. I don’t want to become too morbid here but if the treatment was worse than the non-treatment people wouldn’t be signing the consent for treatment. Like you quoted, some of the treatments are pretty intense and for good reason, cancer is no joke.

Many people go through all of the treatments and continue to lead wonderful and productive lives but not the same life they would have had. The idea with what I said previously is that if someone is able to stop smoking it’s a very smart decision.

We all know people who chainsmoked their whole life and died from something completely unrelated. We could die from anything but we also have the ability to effect the odds. Quitting smoking helps the odds against some really unpleasant stuff and that seems worthwhile to me.

Congratulations! You’ve done something a lot of people can’t do. The benefits to your health are enormous.

Tapering seemed to work for me. This last year I went from just under a pack a day to one a day… Then on Sept 15 I went from one smoke a day to no smokes a day. It was hard. It’s still hard. I still get that urge and still hunt for my smokes and my sneaky brained thinking still likes to kick in.

But Sept 15 was my last puff… so far.

I think that you can count it as a true success, once you get off the gum - but good for you for recognizing that smoking is just plain bad for ones health - I was once a 2packs a day smoker - I quit cold turkey, no gum , no patch, no hypnotism, just plenty of water and sheer will

Thank you for sharing that… Glad I’ve quit. Very much an eye opener.

Sorry to be off topic but I just wanted to say Hi and welcome to the forum.

Well done. I’ve been off them for 8 days now and don’t feel like taking any. Any cravings only last for a few minutes anyway.
