After more than 20 jobs in 10 years, I wonder if I should quit trying. I just pushing myself but everytime I end up coming out feeling like no one at work likes me, yet I know not everyone in life is goign to like you. It doesn’t bother me, until I get really depressed about things and don’t want to go in because people don’t like me… I turn this into a reality when I get this paranoid.
I have people who don’t like me too - a lot of people. I just avoid them. That’s about all you can do.
I know this. It doesn’t bother me as much normally, but when I am really unwell, I can’t seem to shake it… and I am in a constant state of anxiety out of work and worse in work.
I got really paranoid when I worked I think it was the stress. I did get bothered when I thought about people not liking me.
Happy birthday @Natron
Work is about completing your duties as an employee and not about who likes you or not. You are getting paid by the employer to finish the tasks assigned to you and receive monetary compensation for the time you are at the workplace.
I know this too. I don’t usually care. When I don’t feel well, that’s when the paranoia hits and I mess everything up.
@anon25873142 Merry Christmas, are you or your family celebrating Christmas today. I have some spare time now if you want a chat.
Thanks @Simonw I think I’ll try to stay positive about this for the day. Happy Christmas to you too.
The last two times I tried to do a new job (proper employment that would pay the bills without claiming any benefits) I only lasted one day on both.
I think that we only really know that we have schizophrenia when we keep failing everytime we do something which wouldn’t have been a problem before.
I have bipolar symptoms like you, and I think that the only way to distinguish between depression or negative symptoms is when we actually try do do something.
You have the ability to work, so I would use it.
IDK about your feeling unliked. I doubt many people at work like me but they’re polite to me and that’s enough.
So what if you’ve had 20 jobs? You should get 20 more! Since I was 17 I’ve had about 30 different jobs. Some lasted a day, some lasted 4 years. I’ve been at my current job 10 years. That’s how it works. You may fail at a bunch of jobs and succeed at a bunch of others. I think you’ve said you worked 4 or 5 years at a job. That’s a success to me.
If I stopped working every time nobody liked me at a job or if I stopped working because I failed at jobs then I wouldn’t have been employed like I’ve been the past 34 years.
Failure is part of life, everybody fails at some point. But it doesn’t mean you have to give up. You just keep going and sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. It’s like that old saying, “It’s not how many times you get knocked down, it’s how many times you get back up.”
I’ve failed a lot, both in my personal life and my work life. I’ve had 30 jobs but I’ve been fired at about 12 of them. I just go out and get another job. My neighbors make it their mission to crush anything I’ve learned in life, they want me to be the unconfident, depressed, ugly guy I was at 13 though I’ve had tons of life experience since then. I just have to live with that and keep going.
I could have given up long ago. Hey, I proved myself, I could just quit everything and live on my laurels. But I’m going to keep going. You are ridiculously young. You still have energy and life and looks and your whole life ahead of you. I would keep working and enjoy your relationship and just keep pushing forward until you drop. I don’t know what else to say, you already understand a lot, for instance you understand not everybody is going to like you but like someone said above, you are there to do a job and get paid; not get involved in popularity contests. I hope you can work through this Ish.
Besides, look around at your next jobs. Look at the so called popular crowd. Does anyone really like them as a person or do people like them because they appear cool or good looking or people are afraid of them? I mean what’s so great about being liked so superficially like that?
I only lasted 2 years at my last job, and that’s the longest I lasted. But I really admire your drive to work… I will keep going. Although I won’t settle for any job this time. It has to be part-time.
It’s up to you and I feel your pain
We all need to be occupied and I think too much time on your hands might not be a good thing
I feel like a failure because I’ve never had a job.
I’m sorry you feel that way @bobbilly …
Its a big thing for me when my friends are more successful than me.
@anon25873142 I think you are very successful holding down many jobs over the years. You should give yourself credit.
I know it is hard, but try not to compare yourself with others. We’re all different, and having psychosis is a work on it’s own… As my partner said when I quit and have been out of work for so long, he says I have been working, I have been working on myself. And that takes a lot of work.
