I have a question for shopping addicts: Do you focus on one type of item when purchasing (ie go nuts on purses or maybe shoes or makeup), or is it fairly random?
I’m not a shopping addict, so I dont count. But if I overspend, and I do, it is always food or books. 100%. Nothing else.
I have to force myself not to buy more books. I once had three shelves of them, but had to downsize to one shelf. The torment is always there though, when I walk past them in the drugstore. I liked books when I didn’t have SZ, and for ten years into the SZ I could control myself, but once I was on meds, I wanted to buy so many books.
Thanks @anon21280033.
@anon70814080 I’ve oddly never had an issue with books. Maybe because I consider books a justifiable purchase? I don’t know.
They aren’t the worst thing to collect, since they benefit me once I read them, but I’m on disability, and have limited funds. I need to show more restraint. Then again, it’s not like I bought $1000 worth of books on my credit card…I guess that’s good. This doesn’t get rid of the insane urges though. I burn through too much of my left over money.
I’m so sorry. That’s not fun at all. I spend all of my extra money every time, too. I could have bought a house ten time over if I’d just stop spending.
My shopping “addictions” are kind of all over the place…
One minute I’m all about shoes, then board games, then purses, then clothes for baby human, then nail polish… you get the idea I think… lol
My main unnecessary purchases are usually video games or books. Video games would be the bigger of two evils since i rarely actually play them and stick to them these days.
I had this phase where I bought too many bargain shelf perfumes for $20 each, over a period of three years. These were far more than I could use. The 100 ml bottles take forever to go through since I only use one squirt. I get bored with a new fragrance fast, and really have to clamp down on buying new ones. I have no friends to give them too if I don’t like them…
I did perfumes once. I wish I’d been smart enough to go with the small affordable ones. That seems smarter, at least. But no- I went for the 3.4 oz of Viktor & Rolf, Lancome, Armani, etc. I was lucky to have people to send them to, but I did not enjoy the shipping costs of my folly.
My latest shopping has been books and sunglasses.
I can’t really afford it as I have no savings but couldn’t help myself.
I bought books because I’m uncomfortable going to the library.
Bought second hand Versace sunglasses.
I was previously buying second hand clothes that I didn’t even like that much.
Was regretful purchases.
