Seeing a nurse for med adjustment? Help?

I need my medication adjusted or possibly need to be put on a new medication,

On account of crippling anxiety and massive hair loss.

My doctor’s office called and said my doctor is out of town and I’ll be seeing a nurse for my injection.

When I told them I couldn’t see a nurse because I’m having problems and need changes to my regimen they told me the nurse could do anything my doctor can so not to worry.

I guess she’s a nurse practitioner,

However I’m still skeptical.

Is she going to want to make these changes in my doctor’s absence or just want me to do my regular injection?

I can’t postpone these changes for another month,

Should I see the nurse or just try to wait for my doctor to get back in town?

Does anyone have any experience with a similar situation?

The nurse practitioner will work with and stay in in close touch with your doctor.
She will follow his or her orders.

I see nothing wrong or harmful in seeing this specialized type of nurse.

She can prescribe meds but in conjunction with your doctor.

You doctor will know everything.

I have dated Nurses and I have dated Psychologists. The Psychologists asked themselves the question, “What’s wrong with this guy?” and the Nurses asked themselves, “How can I make this fellow more comfortable?”

Once when the doctor wouldn’t see until Monday, and it was Saturday, I went to the Emergency Room to get needed refills on my scripts. They were good to me.

Presently I see a Nurse Specialist. She is not a Nurse Practitioner, but she can prescribe psych meds herself. I like working with her. For one thing she doesn’t have the oversized Ego I’ve seen on too many doctors.

@GoldenRex, Psychiatric nurse practitioners are supervised by a psychiatrist. All his/or her actions have to be approved by a psychiatrist so, you have nothing to worry about.

How old are you, @GoldenRex? The hair loss may be due to age and not medications. I started losing my hair massively at about the age of 48. It seems like once you hit pre menopause, it’s all over.

If you are still young, you might have hypothyroidism from meds. That can cause hair loss too. I got hypothyroidism from taking Lithium.

What meds do you take now? Do you have extremely rapid changing thoughts or voices?

I’m 33,

And I saw a dermatologist that told me the hair loss is probably due to medication and anxiety.

@aliali,

I’m on ablilify injection,

Yes, I have racing thoughts and voices.

The nurse may be a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant. I think you should see the nurse. It may take a long time to see the doctor.

Saw the nurse and she was able to reduce the abilify,

So good news.

Did the dermatologist happen to say whether or not you should start regrowing hair when you stop or lower the offending med? I’ve recently noticed a ton of hair coming out in the shower and I’m on risperidone.

She said the hair should come back with medication adjustment.

For a period of time, racing thoughts are OK for brain to gain its ability to think but after this period u should take sth to calm down your brain,
Traditional APs are good for this purpose,
If you have not poorness of thoughts anymore then give them a try,
