So people in the past didnt know what schizophrenia was until it was finally coined in the early 20th century. And people thus didnt comprehend it as an illness and often times made stories revolving around schizophrenic characters with symptoms and called it “madness” or whatever.
I would just like to know if any of you noticed such characters in famous books, before schizophrenia was known?
Goethes Faust seems to have a protagonist who hears somebody nobody else can see. Shakespeares Hamlet is about a prince who sees and hears his own fathers ghost but nobody else can do the same.
Good to know that schizophrenia can be a form of public entertainment. Do you know any other such books?
