the only positive thing that came out of me getting sz is that I wrote a book from what I went through…other than that…it’s all negative.

I can’t think of any positives. But I won’t rattle off a list of negatives either. I cope by staying healthy, active and in constant forward motion.

It’s manageble and it’s not deadly. I have more trouble with my heart condition and my diabetes.

Positives:

I used to make pretty bad decisions when I was younger. Schizophrenia prevented me from sleepwalking into a being a bad husband and father.

Negatives:

I’m not a productive member of society.

Positive: More empathy especially for those suffering from mental illness. My ACT team and the clients. This forum. Don’t have to work a busy job and be stressed every day from it.

Negatives: The first ten years were like a mental hell and I was so stressed.

I cope by taking my meds. I take an Invega Trinza injection and Bupropion. I also go to ACT groups every week.

I find it really difficult to try to imagine a version of myself that never developed sza or abused drugs/alcohol etc. That person wouldn’t be me. They’d probably be an absolute dik too.

Schizophrenia has showed me how much people care about me. And my illness.

But it is a lot of responsibility and burden on me.

Positive is that I now can understand what having a mental illness means. Before sz I kind of thought that people make it up or be just very “soft”. So I think with sz you can understand a person with mental illness better than a doctor, because they never experiencing what it’s like. They can study as much as they want, they never understand what it’s like to be unstable.

But well, it’s pretty negative the most time ,

I think it makes me more creative/easier to relate to for people. When somebody is perfect, it intimidates people. When you have flaws, people tend to open up to you faster.
The negative is that symptoms can be scary, and communication can be difficult.

There are too many negatives to mention right now

There’s nothing positive about this godforsaken illness

I don’t find there’s anything positive about it.

Schizophrenia destroyed my confidence, made me paranoid of everything, a large amount of distress and embarrassment, and more.
