Schizophrenia Fellowship CEO says Australia spending half of what it should be on mental health

A mental health official says a funding guarantee is an enormous relief but there remains great uncertainty.

Federal government funding to June next year was confirmed last week for hundreds of support organisations across Australia.

This is probably the most uncertain time that we’ve ever had when it comes to the policy, the directions in relation to mental health services.

The CEO of the Schizophrenia Fellowship of New South Wales, Rob Ramjan, says the year long extension is very pleasing.

But he says with the switch to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), there is much insecurity.

“For people on the ground delivering those services, it’s an enormous relief,” he said.
