I’ve done some mensa tests, and while not a real IQ test, it’s a good baseline on how well it would go I feel like. I score in the 80s regularly. But really, I’m starting to feel like the whole IQ thing is nonsense as it’s only a standardized test indicative of certain intelligences. It does not encompass literary intelligence very well, nor does it with emotional intelligence.
Maybe I’m just trying to make myself feel better because I scored so low in those challenges, but IQ is a precarious road to go down because it quantifies our intellectual prowess. And if you want to be really successful, develop grit. Grit will take you farther than a high IQ will by itself with bad conscientiousness.
IQ is just a way of trying to be objectively certain of something when there is a very broad range of uncertainty in what your intelligence could be. If you want to have a high IQ but have no practical way of demonstrating intelligence thats fine, but simply have an idea of who you are and what youre like and be secure with yourself
i have heard that us with sz have a whole lot to deal with and so those tests are not actually accurate at all. instead we deserve many points for working it all out… judy
I think that most people with sz who are unemployed don’t even realise that the iq goes down because in casual day to day life it doesn’t makes a difference. But if you go to work and realise that you struggle every day, the impact is quite drastic.
"Studies have shown using drugs, particularly cannabis, cocaine, LSD or amphetamines, can increase the risk of developing schizophrenia, psychosis or a similar illness.
It is not clear if using drugs directly causes symptoms in people who are susceptible to schizophrenia, or if they are more likely to use drugs."
No matter which one causes the other, street drug use and schizophrenia are correlated.
Street drug use causes brain injury.
That’s a link to a government-shared study. Don’t make me post a youtube link to a ‘this is your brain on drugs’ television advertisement of an egg frying in a pan.
Putting 1 and 2 together isn’t complicated. Some schizophrenics have lower IQ’s because they’ve done street drugs, and thus got brain injury. I have no earthly idea why people keep asking why or if people with schizophrenia have lower IQ’s.
Now, that isn’t to say that brain injury can’t heal. Neuroplasticity exists. That isn’t to say that it is everybody’s fault that they were on street drugs. Forms of oppression exist on this planet that I don’t even like to think about much.
However, put simply: Schizophrenia → Street drugs → Lower IQs.
