Routines? Daily/weekly?

One thing I’ve heard was having a daily or weekly routine can be a saving grace to everyone with our affliction. Do you guys have one if so what is it, because I’ve had none and I’m pretty much a basket case to my family lol!

Yes I get up early as I can have breakfast go for 40 min walk, go get groceries, go tea toast with mum
I work 2 mornings at charity shop and attend college 2 days a week
I go bed 8 pm except weekend
The morning walk helps

It’s nice not having a job. I tried working a couple times. That allows me to construct a pretty reliable schedule. It’s more of a daily thing than weekly. Wake up… Get coffee… Get food… Shower at some point. Then later in the day I figure out what my friends are doing or head to my bros house where people always are. I don’t really plan any of it. I just do what I want to do which is always the same thing.

I think the real benefit of a schedule is it keeps you thinking about real things which is super positive. Part of feeling good is just being a functional human being not lost in your head.

Someone told me once that routines help to make everything as real as possible,. Problem is some can become a total mess when the routines disrupted. So would think the idea is to still be flexible with it.

Myself, I’m still struggling in keeping my new routine. Which comes down to trying to change to much too quickly. Plus I’ve had some setbacks. A pulled a muscle which I kept agitating and sprained my wrist among last years confuckles. Rather disappointed where I am now with it all. As had plans of changing many things since my last hospitalization in July 2013.

Yes I get into a routine doing same things regular all week I know what to expect and can achieve a balance

wake up, coffee smoke two cigarettes repeat every hour until 4 or 5pm whilst being bored senseless doing boring stuff on laptop, after four or five switch out coffee with beer and continue till 2 or 3 am, if your on a buzz switch back to coffee and do the same thing until about ten the following morning, if your feeling more scared than usual curl up in a little ball under the covers and pray you don’t live much longer. I’m telling you its a recipe for success :smiley:

That’s quite the life man.

My wife usually gets me up at 6:30a and we watch the news and have breakfast. Some days we drive 50 miles round-trip to take my brother to work by 9am. After that we often visit her mom and sister and I work on their old computer. The rest of the day usually involves doctor appointments, cleaning, laundry, paperwork, an afternoon nap, groceries, and mall walking. I usually log all my food on my fitness pal on my cellphone which can be a pain but seems to work for me. I manage appointments with Google Calendar and use Google docs and Dropbox a lot. I usually sit down once a day at our pc to enter in financial stuff in Quicken. Most of our monthly bills are automatically deducted. I seem to do better when I keep track of my time, finances and health on a daily basis. I also usually have some time to do digital photography and simple music projects. I am always playing with my smartphone too :slight_smile:

Things get thrown out of kilter when someone gets sick… It was pretty stressful when my wife was in the hospital in early November and needed a lot of care after coming home.

I live in an assisted living center for the mentally ill, and there is a routine we follow. It’s pretty loose structure, which I like. We go to a clubhouse for about 6-7 hours a day, where we have a little group therapy, but mostly free time. We eat at the clubhouse. They also have internet computers at the clubhouse that we can get on at certain hours. We live in tiny town of about three-hundred people, and we go into Siloam Springs (pop. 16,000) once a week. I live in an “independent living program” where I have my own apartment and an allowance to live on. That is how I can afford my own computer with an internet connection. The people who aren’t in the independent living program get $10.00 a week spending money.

I do my volunteer job 3 days a week recently and I’m starting a class soon. The volunteer job has made a tremendous difference with my happiness! And the class will be good too. Plus I read often and watch sports and post on message boards.

I think maybe I should try and instill a small amount of structure in my life, especially since I’ve had none in the past few years and it has led to a lot of chaos. Not that I need every minute and detail pre planned out for me but to at least have a round about routine that I start with perhaps?

Wake up from three hours of sleep, put myself down for how much of a pig sty my room is, try to clean it, throw things around instead, think about taking a shower, think about eating, try to get rid of the people always in my house watching me, documenting everything I do, check my empty e-mail, check out some news sites, blogs, forums, look at my guitar, think about eating again, get something to drink, pace around, gain speed, run around, write a letter to my yooper friend, go to sleep at 8:00 AM. Wake up at 11:00 AM. I’m not living. Weekly routine involves seeing the case manager and the therapist.

Stay awake as long as possible, stay asleep as long as possible.

Wake up and if stinky, take shower (every two to three days in winter), go to coffee shop immediately. Then, library. Then home. Reality checks if coming into contact with new people.

Yeah for sure. People with SZ tend to be very anti-social and it just leads us into a downward spiral. Even if it means going for a walk everyday or going to the gym. Then eventually starting a volunteer job, then getting a paying job. Baby steps but I can tell ya even if you don’t wanna do it, you should anyways because it’ll make you feel better even if the anxiety is overwhelming. I volunteer at the nature center and it’s very enjoyable although no job is perfect.

Volunteering ten years ago was a good thing for me. It kept me busy and I met a lot of nice people. I am considering getting back into it since a lot of nonprofit organizations tend to be more understanding if you are struggling with symptoms. There is a local nonprofit in my city that refurbishes donated computers and gives them to low income schools and families… Could be fun.

I workout at night for one and half hours ON A DAILY BASIS except on Sunday or Saturday where I get a day rest…but I might skip 1 more day of workout to play football

Routines cost money.

My job is the structure I need. Having something that I have to get out of bed for…

I know without it… I’d be sitting very still for very long periods of time living in my head.

I’d most likely wear my jammies all day long again. Plus… I do enjoy my job.

My routine consists of waking up and jumping on the forums to see what I missed. All the while sipping on a soda and vaping my e-cig. Then it’s all up in the air until supper at 5. Definitely no breakfast and usually no lunch. Lately my wife and I have been going to bars where she sings karaoke and I’m there for moral support and to clap the loudest. Matter of fact, we’re going out tonight.

I keep a routine in school, also my lifting routines and diet keep me stable. I have a lot of structure that I create. Like today, I just lifted with a friend, just got home and showered and we’re going back out for dinner and to go see a band play with some more people.

I like going to bed at 11 and getting out of bed at 930, usually listening to music for a bit and clocking out at midnight, waking up at 9 and then just thinking about my dreams for thirty minutes. I usually have vivid dreams.
