Roleplaying games, do women like them?

I was on roll 20 and it is kinda a sausagefest. I know that many types of games are male dominated but I heard that vampire the masquerade was played 40-50% women. Maybe women don’t like playing with strangers over the internet. I’ve found a couple of people that were women on there. Most of the people I think are male. At least they have male names. Do any of you women play roleplaying tabletop games? Only in person?

You’re right. Computer gaming is a male dominated form of entertainment. If there are women characters, don’t be surprised if it’s a guy who is playing that female character. Women prefer talking on the phone or communicating on Facebook. A minor portion of women will be on forums like schizophrenia.com.

Would you consider playing on a site like roll 20 or is there a reason why a woman shouldn’t that I am not seeing? I mean after college. In college you can find any group.

I like playing DND and stuff like that with my friends, why would I play online with strangers when I could play with them?

When I was younger I did used to do roleplay a lot online though.

I don’t know what makes one thing male dominated. In my d and d group it is like 8 men and was 1 woman. The problem is that everyone would get drunk throughout the night and start telling dirty jokes. None were directed at her, but it wasn’t her scene.

Bottom line, if the environment allows for men to become pigs, women are going to avoid it. But thank God for women nerds, we need more of them.

75% of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) jobs are filled by men, but I believe it would be false to conclude that men are inherently smarter than women in STEM. Girls are not encouraged to have STEM careers, and they have to overcome biases that favor boys. The good news is that the playing field is tilting towards level.

There’s a demand for women role models. One need only to look at the success of the movie Wonder Woman for proof of this demand. Furthermore, women such as Jessie Graff from the television show American Ninja Warrior have a huge following on social media, and two women recently earned the high distinction of becoming U.S. Army Green Berets (a field that women have been historically banned from).

It’s amazing what opportunity can do.

I have never done roll play.
Not on line and not in person either.
When I was a teenager my friends used to do so but I never did.
They said it would take to long to try to explain it to me.
Now with schizophrenia diagnosis I want to be careful and still have not done these things and think maybe I should not ever.
I don’t think I want to anyway.

I learned long ago that the world is for the boys to own. Girls were supposed to be in the kitchen cleaning the dishes and fixing the men snacks while they played their ‘Card’ games.
As my dad said to me when I hought it was my turn for him to teach me cribbage like he had done with my 3 older brothers, he said, Girls DON’T play cribbage."
Yeah I guess not if you never teach them…phooey.

And also , I absolutely HATE talking on the phone or using facedick.

I found that there are much more women in these sort of games than in the others.

nerds!!! and lol at the generalization that female humes are more interested in talking on the phone and facederping… I cant talk too much crap…as a man id rather be shaving my face and arm wrestling bears or… football…pfft… lol I do not like any of those activities and to be honest id rather attempt to arm wrestle a bear than to have to watch a whole American football game…

there are very few gender exclusive activities in this part of the world… anyone can do about anything… cept like birthing. and only one sex can get kicked in the nuts…but other than those… oh and growing beards that kinda male dominated I think… but other than those 3 things…lol

I think we might have either a really naive man talking about women here or he’s just a troll…you women decide…that was pretty offensive.

So silly that people think girls can’t handle stuff like that…once in college while waiting in line for ice cream the guys in front of me dropped an F bomb, saw me behind them and then apologized :joy::joy: Wouldn’t want my sensitive feminine innocence to be damaged by a naughty word. Meanwhile my roommate (a girl) practically every other thing she says is a swear.

My friend group can get pretty dang raunchy joke wise.

I watched my gf hip flip like a judo move some dude who was pissing her off… the first night we hung out… I was very impressed… I think I could still win if we actually had a death match… but to be honest if she is mad enough to want to kill me I probably deserve it…so I would just let her have the win…

I still worry about her safety sometimes… but not due to her gender…shes a badass but anyone can get out numbered… or fall into a trap…

I think it’s more likely that there are tons of women on those sites, but they don’t go around advertising their gender because they don’t want to become creep magnets. I pretend I’m a guy on most websites, and I used to do it here, too.

I’m a woman, and I like RPG’s.

I usually don’t tell people my gender until asked, though.
I don’t mind being called “dude” or “sir” or generally mistaken for a guy, and I laugh every time I voicechat with the buggers and they’re like "OMG you’re a girl???"
Hahaha :stuck_out_tongue:

But yeah, like Ninjastar said, I think a lot of women don’t want to be a magnet to creeps, or become accused of advertising thier gender in order to get handouts.
Which some girls do occasionally, but far from all.

Yeah… You have a good point on this that I shall partake.

I think when a woman announces she is a woman in role-playing games it becomes like that scene from Eurotrip when they go to the beach and Michelle Trachtenberg arrives. I tried to find a clip but was unable to. Basically the main characters go to a nude beach and it’s full of men, when the Michelle Trachtenberg arrives they all start chanting “girl! Girl! Girl!” And they chase her. It’s an all around funny movie for those who haven’t seen it.
