Risperdal as PRN

I talked with my case manager about having feeling bad around noon everyday. She talked to my doctor and got me 1 mg Risperdal tablets. I’m already on Risperdal injections. I take La Tuda at night time. If my appetite increases I doubt I’ll take the Risperdal as prn that often.

I didn’t even think I could have an antipsychotic as a prn. Does anyone else have an antipsychotic as a prn?

I also told my case manager I wanted to get on Geodon because of the hunger pains from Risperdal and she said that Risperdal doesn’t increase my hunger, which I highly disagree with.

I use a variety AP as prn.

Yeah here in the U.K. they basically rarely give benzo anymore so they use APs instead

My first psychiatrist told me she wasn’t going to make me a valium head. That’s a benzo right?

Yeah that’s a benzo. Docs just don’t prescribe them much anymore.

I think @LED takes additional antipsychotic prn, it is not a common practice.

Yeah, I take haldol injections, haldol nightly, and also take some prn when I have breakthrough symptoms.

Yes I am on Vraylar daily and have Seroquel as a prn. I had a friend who was on Goedon daily and took zyprexa as a prn for sleep. I take the Seroquel rarely to sleep and for anxiety.

@LED around the holidays my injection schedule gets all messed up and I get recently I got an option to take it a day early or a day late. I choose the early one. I’ve taken the day late and have lost it before. Does the same thing happen to you?

Not really. I can go a few days here or there and be mostly fine. But I take it every 3 weeks now instead of every 4 because the last few days were too much for me.

I’ve taken Seroquel in the past as a PRN.
It’s sedative effect is great for being able to fall asleep.
Right now I’m on 16 mg of Fanapt during the day and 250 mg of Seroquel at night before I go to bed.
Doing better everyday!

What does prn mean?

p.r.n.: Abbreviation meaning “when necessary” (from the Latin “pro re nata”, for an occasion that has arisen, as circumstances require, as needed).

It is unusual for an AP to be prescribed PRN.
But listen to your doctor.

I just took it. I will probably take it around 10:30 am everyday and make it part of my normal meds.

Some apps can be used prn. Others don’t work that way. I know Haldol can be used prn. But abilify can’t. When I was on Haldol. Depot if I ever felt squirrelly I would take 1mg tablet of Haldol. Worked in about 30 mins. After all you know how your feeling more then anyone else.
