Research opportunity for those interested

Hi all,I am working on a research project on areas of schizophrenia that I don’t see mentioned enough in my experiences with it. Here’s the flyer and link to the survey for anyone interested.

The Schizophrenic Equation:

Trauma…guilt…recklessness…acceptance…recovery to a degree.

(The psychosis stems from the recklessness faze.)

I took the survey

I bailed on the Survey half way through. My attention span is close to nil on this Abilify.

No worries thanks for trying! I understand that medication/concentration thing. For me it’s memory too.

This seems like a very good and underutilized area of research. I had to get two different therapists, one for psychosis and one for trauma.

Thank you so much! I’m glad I am not the only one who felt that way.

@cakeisverygood am I correct in understanding that, in addition to being a researcher, you also experienced psychosis personally? m If so, you are welcome to stick around our community after your project is done.

@Ninjastar Thank you so much! Yes you are correct, I have schizophrenia myself which is one of the reasons I wanted to get involved in research. There are so many areas that no one looks into and it’s often hard to make changes within the system without the clinical side so I’m trying to combine my lived experience and research to make changes

It’s always good to know someone on the inside. I used to work in mental health care myself, before I went out on paternity leave.

That’s an exciting reason to move out of the field
I work as a peer specialist currently. I love the work but it can be challenging too purely because clinicians don’t always respect my opinion as much as their own. I am planning to study cognitive science in graduate school and hopefully publish research that sheds light on these experiences that are so often not spoken about.

I stayed closeted in my work up until I got promoted into a managerial position, so I didn’t deal with much discrimination. By the time I left, I was the most senior person I interacted with. But I guess it is hard to stay closeted when your job has a requirement of having experienced psychosis yourself.

Don’t feel like you have to be restricted to just talking about your research here. Feel free to join in other threads and ask for support. We love new members!

That’s amazing. I’d love to work in a position where people valued me for my skills before my diagnosis. Yes, the first team I worked with was really lovely and valued my experiences and always asked for my perspective on things. But the second and third peer jobs have just been a nightmare in that way. I’m glad I had the good experience first!

I tried to do the survey but had to bail part way through I am afraid - sorry

My concentration and short term memory is shot and I couldn’t recall the multiple choice options when they got a bit more complicated.

Certain things like this I find very difficult, especially when I am tired and been working all day

Can I go back to where I left off when I feel up to it?

@cakeisverygood can you put the link under the picture? Or send it to me and I can do that for you. I can’t use the picture link. I can’t read it well on mobile and type it in another window.

This is awesome! A very important yet very poorly researched topic AND they even covered that psychosis itself is traumatic too! I filled it out.

It took a while but I completed it, very deep and personal. I hope it can help.

Thank you! You should be able to complete it when you are ready, either way I really appreciate your time.
