Did a quick search of joseph gogos the author, seems like there working on treating cognitive symptoms.
I wasn’t able to find out which cancer drug his lab is looking at, but there’s research on cancer drugs that are HDAC inhibitors for autism and schizophrenia going back at least to 2010. There’s some speculation that these drugs could upregulate or downregulate hundreds of specific genes on a long term basis, meaning potentially one treatment might last years.
There are many approved drugs that are HDAC inhibitors, and supplements, like sulforaphane and sodium butyrate. But the ones for cancer seem to be much stronger.
Do you know if they work across all domains or is it just for cognitive?
I don’t think there are any human trials, so it’s hard to say. If it really can upregulate and downregulate the right genes, it could help all domains.
In the mouse autism studies, it improves social interaction and different kinds of cognitive measures.
