Question for people with scoliosis

Just found out I have scoliosis. It may be degenerative or I may have had it since I was a kid. Just curious if I should be worried or not. Is this something that will get worse or will the effects be pretty negligible? I’ve done a lot of weight lifting and would like to get back to that.

My mom and sister have/had scoliosis.

My mom is 77 and has some problems walking, she still has scoliosis although there’s worse things. She blames it for shes fragile.

My sister on the other hand wore a brace when she was a kid. She used to cry and weap about wearing the brace is what i remember. i always thought id have scoliosis but then the doc says no your back is straight

Sorry to hear about this ailment of yours. I dunno tooooo much .

I have minor scholiosis that my gym teacher noticed THROUGH MY SHIRT and pointed it out to the class, embarrassing the crap out of me.

It never gets worse, just stays as is. It’s a slight curvature to the left for me, not major enough to cause any big problems but I do suspect it ■■■■■ up my golf swing.

I was told I have it but never went to the follow up

I found out during an appointment a few months after my falls. Took me by surprise, as I was 65 and there’d not been the slightest hint about it previously. I was told it had been there since at least my teens. My youngest niece had to have an operation when a child because of hers.

My sister has scoliosis from a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis or NF. I lucked out. I don’t have it. All my other 3 siblings do. NF not only causes spine curvature, it also causes tumor growth that’s oftentimes cancerous. My poor sister had to wear a brace and endure very painful spine surgery and wear a full body cast, post surgery, as a 15 year old. This same sister is now 62 and her spine is now so curved that it is on the verge of crushing her lungs. She has had cancer 3 times and endured cancer treatment 3 times. She has been in remission for 17 years.

Another sibling, a brother, got brain cancer at 13, endured treatment, survived 23 years, only to get renal (kidney) cancer from the brain cancer treatment. This sibling is now dead.

Scoliosis can worsen over time, but sometimes it stays the same or even gets better

My daughter was born with scoliosis. Then she started ballet and over time, from having to keep her spine as straight and pulled up as possible, she corrected it.

She no longer has curvature of the spine.

It’s pretty amazing

That’s awesome. It’s not supposed to work that way.
