I was sectioned under the UK Mental Health Act in 2010 now UK Govt has announced by Her Majesty The Queen that proposals are now in place by UK MP’s in House of Commons to reform or better still abolish this outdated horrible act/practice great news!
A lot of people don’t like being sectioned, but it’s usually for the good of the person concerned or to protect other people .
I have been sectioned before and I was not impressed. It was a section 2 but they did not keep me for the full time.
I have had half a dozen emergency sections as well when I tried to leave hospital at the weekends
Ive only had a 72 hour hold on me. The rest were voluntary. I learned early on - that if you went of your own accord - you had a better chance of getting off the ward when you wanted to.
UK and Isle of Man Mental Act is a disgrace, I was put in the back of Police Van like a criminial,50 years out of date needs to go asap!
@firemonkey protect you ? other people I was not a danger to other people, maybe myself but even that is debatable tbh.I was locked up for 28 days with more violent people than me with Paranoid SZ,one Polish patient attack me and it took them at least mins to notice! Also SZ patients in my eyes are not cared for properly when seriously ill tbh
There must have been a good reason why you were sectioned. Sectioning is not done on a whim.
As for not being properly cared for: There is certainly a gap between how care in the community does function and how it should function . That comes down to a woeful lack of funding and resources .
@firemonkey Don’t agree sections is Barbaric practice and outdated, should go in in 9-5pm get relevant treatment and sleep in your own bed.The charity Mind in the UK are fighting for this option, have spoken to MP’s to get the disgraceful/outdated Mental Health Act Reformerd or better still abolished!
