Poll: Therapy for schizo disorders

It helped me when I was 24 and completely lost but therapy for me now would be useless. I don’t even listen to therapists

Mine kept pushing me to do things I can’t do, at first she told me to go get a job. Like wtf I told her I can barely get out of bed and you want me to work? Then she blamed me for my negative symptoms saying that they don’t exist and that I am chosing to stay in bed 24/7. I got mad and told her to stop as its not helping and just making me more stressed/worse.

Therapy really works if you have just begun having symptoms

My old therapy sessions consisted of 60 minutes of me yelling at my therapist.

Now I’m better medicated and see a different therapist and WOW, I’m a believer in therapy now.

Honestly I’m not a big fan but when I lived in the states I had hour sessions with my shrink. Over here in Australia I get 15 minutes and I usually am out in 10. So. When I had access to longer sessions I just really didn’t find I needed that much time. To get through my issues I have a good friends and family network and I’ll vent to them If I need to. Otherwise I deal with my stuff quite happily. Some people though it really is worthwhile but I’ve met some bad ones.

I’ve never seen a therapist so I really don’t know. I put “beneficial” because I believe it can probably help for some.

For some people it is beneficial, for others a waste of time and money, your psychiatrist should decide.

Been referred to a “hearing voices” clinic for sussex university here. Beneficial maybe? But i suppose they just want some input on what its really like.

Did a year of therapy too in a “democratic community” but that was for PD’s. The skills i learnt there tho - to self analyse, does help me manage the sz tho.

I believe it’s beneficial. My psychoanalyst was helping me. I quit because of lack of money. But if I get the disability, I will go again. She was interpreting beautifully my so called delusions

I don’t get the idea of “therapy” its basically paying to talk to someone if you need to vent find someone to vent to if you need advice ask people you know or online and pick out the best ideas and try different thing you can do this for free

They provide the tools, you use the tools.

You’re the one making the changes if therapy works well.

I agree. I think I’ve got on much better with male therapists than female. I just feel like they are more understanding. My last therapist, I felt she guilt tripped me into staying a client when it was clearly failing.

My psychologist was useless

I’ve been with the same therapist for 5 years. I’m lucky to have found her. I wouldn’t be able to function without our sessions.

Therapy helps reinforce my coping skills for when I am losing touch with reality and it also helps me to work through logical fallacies that schizophrenia causes.

To me therapy in invaluable.

yea, same here =/
it didn’t help me… the psychologist in the psych ward helped me to be able to go out a bit again but in the end things are still the same really…

I prefer female therapists.
They seem more compassionate.

I’ve had really bad experiences with 2 male psychiatrists so now my current psychiatrist is female and she’s great!

For me therapy was educational to get insight.

You’re right.

You have to put in the effort and that’s probably my problem.
