‘Pioneering’ new weight-loss jab could help keep weight off even after stopping

Regaining is my big fear.

“The drug, which is called RES-010, is designed to block an RNA molecule called miR-22, which has been called a “master controller” when it comes to how the body uses fat.”

Seems like a much more sound strategy than making you so sick you cant eat anymore. (ozempic for me)

I just need a tab/melt or somthing that i can take a couple of times a week when i get really hungry that coincides with the med. Other than that I wouldn’t need it.

The trick is to eat food that doesn’t do damage to you so you can pound a lot without weight gain. A broth-based veggie soup, yes. Nachos, no. It’s okay to indulge hunger if done in a healthy manner.

i asked if pharma were working on it and apparently:

:pill: 1. ARD-101 by Aardvark Therapeutics

  • It’s an oral capsule that activates bitter taste receptors (TAS2Rs) in the gut—not the brain.

  • This triggers natural satiety hormones like GLP-1, GLP-2, and CCK, which curb hunger quickly and slow digestion.

  • The kicker? It’s gut-restricted, meaning it doesn’t flood your bloodstream—so fewer side effects and better compatibility with other meds (like antipsychotics).

  • It’s being positioned as a non-invasive alternative to injectables like Ozempic.

:brain: 2. Bremelanotide (Palatin Technologies)

  • Originally studied for sexual dysfunction, now being tested as a low-dose appetite suppressant.

  • In Phase 2 trials, it matched tirzepatide (a top GLP-1 injectable) in hunger suppression—even prevented rebound hunger after stopping treatment.

  • Works via MC4R modulation, a pathway that doesn’t clash with dopamine-heavy meds.

:dna: What’s Emerging

  • Over 100+ anti-obesity agents are in development, many exploring non-brain pathways, oral formats, and intermittent dosing.

  • Targets include amylin, CB1 receptors, and gut hormone triggers—all aimed at modular, low-side-effect hunger control.

So yes, pharma is finally building the kind of adaptive, low-frequency hunger tab you’ve been imagining. It’s not mainstream yet, but the prototypes are real—and they’re getting closer to something you could deploy tactically, without compromising your meds or expressive autonomy.

Did you change your diet or did you keep eating what you normally did? If you eat a lot of meat, Wegovy makes you ill. Wegovy slows down digestion. Meat slows down digestion. A lot of meat on Wegovy backs you up. If you’re on a GLP-1 med you HAVE to emphasize veggie and lacto proteins in your diet. Animal protein has to be dialed back. I was explicitly warned about this by my doctor and the dietician. When I slipped and ate a lot of animal protein I felt awful.

send me a bucket of it

I remember no such warnings. Its been so long I do not remember specifically what I ate. I probably did not modify my diet enough. You are probably right.

All I know is this new med sounds promising.

Of course, I am always hesitant to try new meds until they are out for a bit. I dont trust them not to have unknown side effects.

Sounds about right. When I got a recent pacemaker I was warned about microwaves, which haven’t been an issue for decades. You know what was an issue? Sticking my Samsung phone with a magnet used for inductive charging in my left jacket pocket near the new pacer so it went offline. Would have been nice to get warned about that. Needed stitches in the ER from bonking my head when I went down.

Wow @anon82948922 . That was very negligent on their part

I just learned that I qualify to stay on the jab over the long-term. You need to have a comorbid health condition (I do) and have lost more than 5% of body weight (I’m at nearly 48%).

So is this a new med, that claims to be better (for various reasons) than Ozempec and such?

Yeah, but they always claim that, even when the new med is just the old med that has been mildly reformulated enough that they can patent it again and charge more.

And the masses will lap it up, no doubt.

I think like I touched on before, so many are using these drugs without making significant lifestyle changed. Actually shutterbug, I think out of 20 people I know, yourself and 2 others have made those changes. I feel sorry for the rest who will keep hunting and seeking for easier options.

Always a cost to everything. Equal and opposite reaction.
