Pharmacological treatment of negative symptoms in schizophrenia: update and

Cariprazine has demonstrated promising effectiveness in the treatment of NS, as it was shown to lead to greater reduction in NS than risperidone in a large trial enrolling 460 subjects with predominant NS.7 In addition, cariprazine induced greater improvements in personal and social performance than risperidone

@Bowens You need to try Cariprazine, its Vraylar and available in the US.

My pdoc offered for me to try Vraylar before but I was having insurance issues at the time and thought it might not be wise because there is no generic. I might try it in the future though.

Was Abilify better than Invega for your negative symptoms?

I tried cariprazine (Reagila). It may have been slightly activating, but nothing impressive. That said, I think it is worth trying, as it may work better for you than it did for me. It is similar to aripiprazole (Abilify) in its mechanism of action, ie. a dopamine partial agonist. It has a preference for dopamine D3-receptors, which is in contrast to most drugs, which target D2 primarily.
