I have a weird problem where I only hear things when I’m in public or at work. I hear people saying my full name but it only happens when other people are actually talking. They’ll say nasty things about me, sometimes it will be personal things that only someone who knows me would know. I don’t tend to hallucinate at home or in private which makes me feel like everyone really is talking about me or they are out to get me. I’ll hear my first and last name spoken probably 50+ times in a single work night by lots of different people, this also happens on the bus a lot.

I think it sounds like your symptoms are triggered by stress. That could be why it’s only out of your home. Have you told your pdoc (psychiatrist) this?
A few tips on things that confuse newbies:
Cake day is the anniversary date of when you joined.
The 1515 or other numbers at the end of peoples posts are because there’s a 15 character minimum to post. So people put 15s after until they get to the minimum characters to post.
To tag someone, put the @ followed by the name.

I can relate.
used to be a voice. a girls voice quietly calling my name from far away in time. Now I hear what your talking about. I’ve heard my name said in my neighborhood but then they could be saying the name of someone with my same name. I try not to fall into that sort of thinking. I’ve heard my nieces name said in conversation right in front of me. I talk about her sometimes to certain people in my neighborhood since she used to live here.

Thank you and yes I have told my psychiatrist, so far medication has had no impact on the frequency or severity of this, feels like I’m running in circles

I still keep thinking I’m being followed, monitored, recorded, reported on and judged by these particular men. It’s scary.
But literally everyone tells me it’s not real. So I have a goal of constantly checking the facts by only going by what everyone else can see.
Plus I’m working on changing /
increasing meds until it’s easier to deal with. It normally happens the worst when I leave my house.

I’ve experienced it in my neighborhood too while a neighbor was on the phone, the only thing that makes it so believable for me is that I will hear my first and last name together and I have an uncommon last name

Same I had a traumatic experience with some bad people and I feel like they are spreading my name around and keeping tabs on my location at all times, spying on my phone and accounts etc

That’s sucks. I had previous trauma too. My mental health team has told me they think my unresolved Complex PTSD is worsening my sza (schizoaffective). So I need to get treatment for ptsd.
Maybe you could try to get treatment for your ptsd too? Is that a possibility for you?
I have been trying to treat it a few years now. I am actually starting to get a little bit better overtime but I still have a long way to go. It might be like that for you too, just don’t get discouraged and don’t quit trying.

I wanted to say welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you have this going on. I used to hear my first name called when I was a kid once in a while when I was alone.
Thats my main hallucination too. I hear voices calling my name or saying hey, its always a different voice each time.

It is common to hear specific things under specific circumstances. I have a persistent delusion regarding some people being reanimated corpses (nanotech) who are used as agents to aid in alien colonization of Earth. I’ll hear and detect things from them I don’t get in private. I realize it’s just my illness acting up (I have a good imagination, but the darn thing apparently got off its leash).
Just ignore the weird stuff and keep going!

I was earlier used to hear insulting words from strangers for myself wherever I go from 1999 to 2010. Now I am hearing insulting words from strangers towards my family members. Strangers are shouting my family members names wherever I go from 2011 to till now. Today also, some neighbors in my residential colony have shouted insulting words to my family member from outside of my home. I and my family member was inside my home when neighbors were shouting my family member name. I am on Risperidone 2 mg.
