I meet my peer support specialist tomorrow. Did you have one? Did you like seeing him/her? Did he/she help you? How so?
I have one. We go out. We had coffee last time. We just talk and hang out.
Do you just talk about life in general? Do you talk about your problems?
Anything that comes to mind. She said she can help me do a cleaning schedule and more. I haven’t asked her to yet.
That’s cool. 151515
Keep in mind peer support staff have mental illnesses too. They know what it is like to be sick and can empathize.
That’s why I’m wondering if people talk about their problems since the peer understands. But I wonder if my peer will not like my diagnosis. I might only talk about my ptsd if I feel comfortable enough.
I work as a peer advocate in my local center… i think you can talk about what u choose and are comfy with…
I myself care and listen and share a little too. In confidence and i regard safety.
Did you prefer leaving their home and going somewhere or just staying at their home?
I work in a center. I dont visit peoples homes myself.
I am pretty good with computers and offer assistance in the pc lab.
That’s nice of you When you’re poor and/or not working you can get behind on technology.
Ty i get being poor… my life is challenging in ways. I believe we as peers have the opportunity to empower each other with our experience strength n hope
i hope more peers jobs avail
I like my peer support specialist. He’s also my hearing voices group counselor. We went on a 1.5 mile walk last time around a cool park. Lots of trees and river paths. Next time we might go disc golfing!
Peer support specialist: do you pay for it? Or it is just a “friend”?
That’s awesome! It sounds like your peer is really fun!
Insurance or grants pay for it @Greenmind
Oh ok thank you. I guess it is not common where i live.
I had one come to my home. She told me my anti-depressant was one of the worst ones I could take.
I never called her back.
Why would she discourage you from taking your meds?! Did you report her?
