I think it’s good to do something to fit into everyday life that could continue after losing the weight - something not hard to do. But hard to start maybe. Walk when you have the opportunity - take the steps, park farther away. … Substitute water when you can instead of something that tastes good. Leave some food behind on your plate. You’ll begin to enjoy the taste of your food better , eating smaller portions + the taste of the water that doesn’t overpower your food.
You’ve heard them before. There are more. Do it Walk along a path for enjoyment away from traffic at the end of the day. Everything doesn’t have to have a purpose. Think of things to do for yourself that,ll have your own stamp on them. Be involved.
Seems kind of wimpy after reading the above. Slowly but surely, the tortoise won the race.
Not all the med’s cause weight gain for everyone. I’ve found Geodon and Seroquel to be weight neutral for me. I did gain weight on a med. that was supposed to lower my blood pressure. Now that I’ve got it, it’s really hard to take it off. I’m about fifty pounds overweight. Sucks.
I lost about 50 pounds over the course of a year but gained most of it back about four years later…this is how I did it:
Initial weight 194, took martial arts classes, became vegetarian—> dropped down to 145 pounds by 2013. Stayed around 145-150 for a year, slowly increased, especially after meat eating resumed and martial arts classes lapsed. I tried to be an ethical vegetarian but there’s nothing like some bbq ribs all greased up with bbq sauce and grilled just so. Sorry, cow.
I’ve been on fitness pal, that seems fun. If there’s a group, love to join and share my meals and exercise. I need to restart exercising.
They say that weight gain and weight loss is a simple function of excess or deficit of calories. Experience has made me doubt this. One time I gain sixty pounds in 120 days. To gain that much body fat I would have had to have a calorie excess of 1,750 calories a day, which I couldn’t have had because I was in a mental hospital, and the food was not that plentiful. I’ve heard of people gaining more weight is less time. Again, it would be just about impossible to have that kind of calorie excess. It couldn’t be water weight, either - carrying sixty pounds more water? I don’t think so. They say that the most important variable by far in controlling your weight is your basil metabolism rate. Exercise can increase that.
Ok… so tomorrow I have an appointment with a respected nutrition/exercise guru… I am curious to see what he thinks (plus I would like to show him my diet app in person)… I will get a body fat percentage scan and some exercise/nutrition advice for about $100 for an hour and a half visit. I will let you all know how it goes.
Ok… so my body fat % scan came out at a disappointing 35% (although I really think I am closer to 25%). So I am carrying about 70lbs of fat. Saw some slight arthritic damage in my knees, hip and shoulder too.
As far as diet goes, need to really strive for low glycemic foods/low allergen foods and totally avoid sugars and low quality carbs. Also have to eat better fats like olive oil, macademia nut oil. and fats from nuts like walnuts, almonds and brazil nuts.
For exercise, build muscle through resistance training and some low joint stressing aerobic exercises, Lean muscle tissue will burn calories constantly. Surprisingly he said I shouldn’t do too much walking so that I don’t mess up my joints even more.
He gave a nice discussion of managing insulin levels and why sugar is such an awful thing in the blood vessels. I will have to fact check some of it but the guy seems to know his stuff. He seems to practice what he preaches and appears in excellent health.
