I’ve been off my meds except for Geodon for nearly a month now and I’m doing shockingly well. I chose to stay on the Geodon to have at least some sort of AP in my system. But I’ve since then stopped the lithium, Prozac, benztropine, Trazodone and Klonopin. Is this stability I’m feeling only temporary? Will these medications take longer to fully get out of my system or are they mostly gone by now?
One month is too soon to tell but it’s a good start.
Good luck @Hanna_Foxx!
That’s very brave. I couldn’t do it. I forgot to take a Xanax a few nights ago and I had a panic attack and had to go home 30 minutes after arriving at work.
And if I skip Wellbutrin I just feel horrible. I need all my drugs. All five of them.
Sounds like you are coping though. Good for you. Best of luck.
May I ask what 5 drugs you are on? You seem to be doing very well.
@Hanna_Foxx Are you still on invega sustenna too?
I take 80 mg of Geodon twice a day, 40 mg of Latuda, 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL, .25 mg of Xanax and 3 mg of Lunesta.
I also take 50 mg of Benedryl for side effects and fish oil and a multivitamin.
How long have you been off all the other meds?
Thank you for replying. I have heard good things about latuda. If my current antipsychotic stops working I may give that a try.
I don’t really know how good Latuda is with psychosis but it helps with my mood. Even 20 mg helps a little.
Nope I stopped that in october
Just about a month now
I assume you made all these med changes with your doctors knowledge.
I’ve seen so many people go off their meds and the majority relapse. I know it’s not what you want to hear.
A common situation is that someone gets put on meds and starts to feel pretty stable and the symptoms are more under control and they start thinking that they don’t need meds because they feel good. They don’t realize they only feel stable because of the meds but they feel so good that they figure they don’t need meds anymore.
And commonly they stop their meds, either themselves or even with a doctors approval. And the majority may last a month, 6 months or two years or anytime in between but eventually they relapse.
And hopefully they’ll learn that they need meds to stay out of the hospital. If they don’t learn, they keep relapsing, and each relapse takes a toll and it gets harder each relapse to recover and it takes more and more medication each time to get stable.
To be honest, I hardly notice my side effects from medication after 40 years on medication. A little dry mouth maybe that’s annoying about once a month or a little tiredness but that might be due to my age. I just advise you to think it through, do you really want to risk a relapse as an adult? I hate to be negative but I’ve seen the horror stories of going off of meds too many times.
Wow! That’s impressive. I hope it continues like that for you
The med’s you list are not AP’s. Geodon is the only AP that you list. I’m not too alarmed by your actions as long as you keep taking the Geodon. If you got off the Geodon I would be afraid for you.
the lithuim sounds like it was treating something important sure its wise to go off it?
