Not on meds or on alternative tx

Hey , is there anyone who’s not on treatment and doing okay or who’s on some alternative treatment. I heard about this consummo herbs stuff and I’m wondering about others experiences on alternative treatment. Have you tried something else or have you found a way to manage symptoms without ap’s? Thx!

Hi, How do you manage symptoms? Do you have any?

You’re on a snark hunt. The very few supplements that work tend to complement psychiatric medications rather than replacing them.

Im nearly off meds. Im on 0.3mg haldol.

Im not delusional, but im not emotionally well at the moment (severely depressed?), which fits my circumstances. I lost my mum this year and cut off contact with my brothers because our family is dysfunctional.

They changed my diagnosis to ptsd + psychosis though instead of sz.

Hi @Rosette.
I have symptoms but they are not very severe.
I use a variety of methods to control symptoms.
Among them are a light colored wide brimmed hat, supplements, cactus to absorb electromagnetic
radiation. I also made lifestyle adjustments and these also help.

I’ve been off meds now for a few months though I still have a few symptoms. I am looking for other methods of dealing with the illness without the harsh side effects of the ap’s. Dr Rufus May managed without meds and did well for himself, also John Nash apparently. I know there are alternatives to the classic meds out there, I just need to found out about them.

Also, when someone on here tells you how well they’re doing on zero meds, I strongly suggest you read their posting history and form your own opinion.

In my own case I’ll appear to be doing well for up to nine months after going off meds and then BOOM. I’m one of those who can function on a very low dose of APs, but can’t function at all on no APs. Search for the Amyloban thread here, you may find that helpful. One of the few supplments that over delivers for many.

@Rosette and I want to clarify that my schizophrenia is super severe.
I had a psychotic episode, delusions, hallucinations, cognitive impairment.
I am an example that even a person with very very severe schizophrenia can manage without medications possibly with alternative defense mechanisms.

I have basically managed to stabilize myself without medications.

Is this even possible?
I think the only reason you are stable is because your schizophrenia is not that severe, otherwise you would be victim of the delusions.

@zeno my schizophrenia is severe but I managed to develop methods to control my brain.
It is not easy but it’s possible.

Were you homicidal?

First, if you had “severe” schizophrenia, you likely wouldn’t be able to coherently post on this site. Especially if you are off meds. Secondly, what are these Jedi Mind Tricks you used to “control” your brain. You should, like, write a book and make truckloads of money.

I tried coming off meds but need at least a minimum dose to keep me level.

I think many of the users have severe schizophrenia and they can write just fine

He meant word salad, its a symptom of severe schizophrenia. For some it goes away with meds for some it doesn’t. I have it moderately without meds and I talk to objects and myself non sense.

And this is why it’s so important to read posting histories before going off one’s meds.
