Hey, I’m new to this whole schizophrenia thing and I’ve been lurking in this forum for quite some time, been too nervous to post because you guys seem to be such a tight-knit community and I’m not sure if I can just jump in on that.
Anyways, I just wanted to say hi and see who responds and get a feel for things.
If anyone has any advice for a newly diagnosed schizophrenic (not new to meds or anything, I used to be diagnosed psychotic disorder NOS, then borderline, then bipolar, then schizoaffective, and now schizophrenic so I’ve been around the psych block a few times haha) I’d love to hear it.
I’m hoping my post doesn’t infringe on any rules or anything, I took a quick read of them when I joined and I didn’t see any against making a thread saying hello…
Hello, welcome. Just work with a therapist and/or psychiatrist, co-operate in your own treatment, and don’t do drugs. You should like it here, there are lots of people who are having a hard time here but you will see that even with this stupid disease many people can keep a sense of humor.
Hi, welcome to the tight-knit community! I was also around the block with different diagnoses, first bipolar then schizoaffective, now schizophrenia and perhaps borderline personality. Very confusing! But I was first diagnosed schizophrenic in 2003 so my re-diagnosis last year was easy - they just looked at my history.
Any advice for a newly-diagnosed schizophrenic? Well… learn as much as you can about sz and stick to your treatment, that’s about it. And its good to socialise a bit too with like minds, so good that you found us!
There is always room for more. I’m glad you have decided to join and join in. Welcome to the forum. I hope you get some answers. I have learned a lot from this site.
