The study, led by Dr. Lena Palaniyappan, psychiatry professor and scientist at Robarts Research Institute, showed brain tissue actually increases in certain areas in patients with psychosis—even before they receive treatment.
Measuring the amount of matter in the most complex organ in any of land mammals may only poorly reflect what actually goes on in the brain. But it’s a good starting point. At least this will attract funding for further studies to replicate or refute or fine-tune the obtained results.
