I suppose the obvious follow up question would be whether subsaharian Africans (who never interbred with neanderthals) and out-of-Africa humans (which did interbreed) display any significant differences on sz rates and prognosis.
Try Fred Previc’s book, “the dopaminergic mind in human evolution and history”. Very interesting for this topic.
If possible check it out from a library. It gets scientific at times, but was an enjoyable read.
I found this part quite perplexing.
First, in four independent case-control datasets totaling 9,362 individuals, individuals with schizophrenia had less Neanderthal-derived genetic variation
So technically, we are genetically more normal than most people. Or am I not reading that right?
Genetically more “modern”, I believe. Sz is a disease of the times, more prevalent in the developed world.
Technology and dopamine hits go together like PB&J.
I got a lot of neanderthal snps.
Interesting read. I’ve thought about that before. Schizophrenia and Neanderthal DNA.
