Could be ocd behavior. Talk to your doc. Ssri’s may help some but there’s other options.

I have that problem sometimes…it’s a common thing in the normal populace…with schizophrenics and other mentally ill it can become obsessive and that is a danger sign.

Talk to your shrink!

Sorry you’re so uncomfortable these days, @sigarino. Maybe rinsing your mouth with warm salt water will help?

How to Do a Salt Water Rinse

To make a salt rinse, add ½ a teaspoon of salt to a cup of warm water. Swish the rinse around your mouth for ten to twelve seconds, then spit it out.

After brushing and flossing, you can use a salt rinse three to four times a week. However, you shouldn’t use a salt rinse too much more often than this — too much sodium could have negative effects on your tooth enamel.

i dont think a dentist will be able to fix me because i cant stop moving my tongue through these sharp teeth even if the teeth were not sharp anymore i keep moving my tongue i

If your teeth weren’t sharp anymore, you wouldn’t damage your tongue.

Sounds like a parafunctional habit and you should talk to your dentist about it.

@sigarino, How are you feeling now? Did you get any relief from the salt water rinse? Is it at all possible to see a dentist now? Concerned for you. :worried:

the salt water didnt really help much : ( tongue still hurts alot and i can only stop moving it for a couple seconds it is almost involuntary i woke up in the middle of the night and was doing it i dont know when i will be able to see a dentist

@sigarino Good on you for trying the salt water. Sorry it didn’t give you any relief. I know it can be difficult to get in with a dentist. Can you talk with your pharmacist about over the counter mouth rinses? This has worked for me in the past. Feel better soon.

PS: Also, please share this information about your mouth with your doctor.

Dentists cover all problems with the mouth, teeth and lips. A dentist can file down sharp teeth so that they can’t damage the tongue and mouth anymore. Please see your dentist.

@sigarino good news there is a relatively easy cheap fix for this.

Go to the pharmacy and ask for a bite guard. Usually these only cover the top teeth. This may be enough. If it is not, there are some bite guards that cover both top and bottom, or once you get insurance again (if it covers dental) you can get one made by the dentist, which would be really nice.

But at the pharmacy (and even at the sporting goods store) they are pretty cheap. Less than $10. This may allow your tongue to heal.

I am sorry you are going through this… :frowning:
It could be some form of tic disorder triggered by an antipsychotic like me talking to myself.
After taking antidepressant and L Theanine… I rarely talk to myself anymore… you only need to find the right solution.

Maybe you should see a hypnotist. Would that be possible for you? It might help.
