My psychosis took a grandiose turn which my therapist said happens in bipolar psychosis, I can’t tell you what the delusions was due to the forums rules. Also my libido increase to crazy levels before and throughout the psychosis apparently hypersexuality happens to some bipolar people while in mania.
Therapists aren’t trained in psychiatry.
I wouldn’t listen to them, and would just ask your psychiatrist for a diagnosis.
I know, I just telling this to hear people opinion about it, I’m going ask my Pdoc for a diagnose for next time I see her.
I had manic and mixed episodes with psychosis and also psychosis without manias or depression.
My pdoc said i have bipolar with mixed features and psychosis.
Its pretty similar to schizoaffective bipolar type but the mood component is more dominant.
I have no idea that could happen, Do you know how frequent your manic episodes are?
I used to get hypomania often like weekly. Ive had i think 3 full blown manic episodes where i lost contact with reality.
I dont seem to get much mania these days, mostly hovering in some mild depressed state to a bit above normal mood.
So the Anticonvulsants didn’t help you much?
I went untreated for a number of years. Then I was first put on welbutrin which did nothing. Later went a different route for mood stabilization as I had the opportunity to do it for free longterm. So for a few years i did Rtms treatments weekly. Which actually worked quite well if i did it once a week it was pretty amazing.
But i had to go back to work 2 years ago and i couldnt get the treatments anymore cuz they only have them during work hours.
So i might hop on the lamictal train soon.
I’ve been diagnosed with bipolar 1 with psychotic features before, my current psychiatrist recently diagnosed me with schizoaffective mixed type after I explained to her that I have psychosis with and without manic or mixed episodes.
They are very similar disorders so I wouldn’t get caught up with which diagnosis you have, they are both severe mental illnesses.
If your psychotic episodes happen outside of a mood episode then it’s more likely that you have schizoaffective disorder.
It’s very hard to differentiate between them many times
Also ask your psychiatrist, a therapist is not usually qualified to make an accurate diagnosis unless they are psychologists with experience working with the severely mentally ill.
My social worker therapist followed my psychiatrists lead and gave me her diagnosis of me.
She’s not qualified to make an accurate diagnosis
We might be hopping on that train together . ![]()
bipolar run in my family, so if I due ending up getting the diagnose of bipolar with psychotics feature I won’t be surprise.
I never had bipolar. Bipolar creeped up to me through out time in 1 year. Was fine on Risperdal for 5 years.
