Modern day football success in the UK is dominated by teams owned by the mega rich. The owners of such teams can afford to buy the very best players. That breeds success that leads to further success. The days when managerial expertise was a primary factor in a team doing well or not have gone.That’s not to say the likes of Pep Guardiola are bad managers, but to say a good manager of a team that can afford to buy the best players will naturally do better than a good manager of a team that can’t afford to do so.

@firemonkey That’s interesting what you say about managers, I never really thought of how bad they were and why they can have such quick turnaround. I’m English but I’m a Celtic fan the dynamics are much different for managers here.

But look at Chelsea after they spent so much. Look at Leicester who won the league. Money is not the only factor. Look at Arsenal who continue to spend huge sums and its been so long since they won.

  1. Leicester were an admirable exception to a general rule.They weren’t able to repeat that success.
  2. Arsenal haven’t won the league since really huge amounts of money were put into teams like Chelsea. Financially Arsenal couldn’t compete with that.

We now have Man city and Newcastle with mega huge spending power. The situation with Chelsea has been affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict . Those clubs have comparatively more spending money than Arsenal.

Unless Arsenal can get a new owner or owners financially able to match the spending power of a team like Man city the chances of them winning the league will be slim at best.

Man United have been big spenders. There is more to it than money when most of the big teams have big budgets.

How many games to go? The Premier league is on another subscription service in our neck of the woods so I haven’t kept up with it for years.

We have 6 more games left in the EPL. Also the semi final in champions league and the FA cup final.
