An opinion piece
Sorry I won’t wear the badge of sz survivor.
That’s kinda irresponsible of the social workers.
Especially when the writer says she used to latch on to the idea that she didn’t have schizophrenia early on.
Seems a lot like telling a cancer survivor they never had cancer because they’re not dead.
I don’t want to be remembered as someone who had SZ. Husband, father, and photographer. That’s how I want people to think of me when I’m gone.
Why would you want it?
Idk I don’t see a problem with this. I just can’t imagine considering myself in complete remission even though my symptoms are better than they’ve ever been. Maybe some people experience that and it’s not to say they were never really sick. When I get sick I get sick af. Luckily I’ve only had two major psychotic breaks that didn’t remiss quickly by taking meds. Good for her. People don’t have any idea what we’ve gone through or go through. I think it’s really just luck of the draw with a lot of schizophrenics. Doesn’t mean it’s not impossible to improve through therapy and other things.
