My meds and issues with them

Haldol, Valium, cogentin, trazodone, and gabapinton

I have restlessness, irritability, loss of appetite, insomnia, suicidal thoughts, increased sensitivity to sound and visuals, pacing and slight swelling of the throat, loss of interest and no joy in anything increased paranoia…there maybe more I’m forgetting but that’s a good chunk of it…

So at what point is it ok to ask for a med switch…my eyes are getting sore from being open so wide and I’m getting severe headaches from the new sensitivity to sounds…loss of sleep and not eating is probably intensifying the effects…

I’ve only been on the haldol for 2 weeks or so…but these seems like a lot…and its gotten worse everyday…

Straight talk to ur pdoc…!!!:smoking:

This sounds kind of unlivable. How much of this is new since Haldol, and how much do you think might be due to the rest?

Definitely talk to your doctor about it. I don’t know how much of this is expected to go away with time, but it sounds unbearable if it lasts indefinitely.

I have an appointment tomm at 1 so it will be brought up…but its been pointed out I haven’t given the meds much time…I know every med is gonna have some side effects but this is overbearing…

All new minus the pacing…I can’t tell what’s due to what anymore lol…

That sucks. I usually have a bad couple of weeks when I start a new med or increase a dosage, but not on this level.

See if you can get an idea about how long these effects are supposed to last. It will make it easier to determine whether it’s something you can push through or whether this isn’t a good drug for you.

This is hands down the winner of most side effects…I feel foolish for complaining about anything before this…

My first drug was my worst - it actually made me want to murder people. I’m totally blasé about side effects after that, they’re all, Well this is unpleasant… rather that, Well this is bleeping terrifying…

“Haldol, Valium, cogentin, trazodone, and gabapinton”

It might’ve helped if your Doc didn’t prescribe you the whole Pharmacy.

Haha…the haldol and trazodone are new…so I’m blaming them…but the trazodone is doing none of its job…and the haldol has yet to curb any of my positive symptoms…while adding all this new crap…

The trazodone, if it’s like most ADs, could take a month or two to really show an effect. Until then, there could be a lot of digestive issues, weird dreams.

I was under the impression that Haldol did its job almost immediately, though those stories were mainly about the depot, not the pills.

I didn’t know it was an ad until the other day she gave it to me as a sleeping pill…

Those side effects sound severe. Was the only med on this list that was recently switched, the haldol replacing the prolixin? Or were any other meds switched or added?

I would recommend that you jot down a list of your symptoms as well as a list of questions for your pdoc appointment tomorrow.

Edit: I see you mentioned trazodone is new. Do you take that as a sleep aid?

Haldol and trazodone are new…but the rest I’ve had for at least 3 months now

@flameoftherhine What did you mean by “slight swelling of the throat”? Are you talking about possible allergic reaction to the med? If so, that could be potentially quite serious, so make sure your pdoc is aware.

Its not swollen shut but I’m noticing its harder to breath…

Well defintely let your pdoc know about that.

You could try to talk to your pdoc. Although I have to say that cogentin didn’t work for me. It gave me a permanent headache so I just stopped taking it. It didn’t do anything for me. So unless you have tremors or the tarditative diskinesia I would consider stopping that drug. That is just my personal experience though, didn’t like it at all. 2 week headaches suck.

talk to pdoc sounds like you have uppers n downers all at the same time xxxxxx

In my experience the high potency meds (ones like haldol and respiradone which you need only a few milligrams of) tend to cause big time restlessness and anxiety. The lower potency ones like quetiapine and Thorazine tend to cause sedation.

I much prefer the lower potency meds.
