My laptop has changed and wants me to use Microsoft Edge. Is this legitimate?

Don’t want to install a virus

Yes, there is a new version of the browser. It is basically the same program with a different logo, but it would be pretty safe to download it.

IDK, a whole lot about computers so take this with a grain of salt. I’ve got a few messages about updating Microsoft Edge. But to me the ads look suspiciously amateurish. And in my experience that’s a big sign that the ad might not be what it says it is.

I think it was an automatic update from Microsoft. I got it on my computer this week. You can install it and then go back to using whatever browser you usually use haha.

I refuse to use any Microsoft browser, so I use Chrome. Firefox years ago was good, but I don’t like it since the update I had on my old desktop in 2013.

Yes, its Microsoft who pushed this update, every PC already has an old Edge but Microsoft redesigned and pushed the new Chromium based Edge to all Windows users. The new Edge is very similar to Chrome which means you can now install extensions like AdBlocker, both are based on the Chromium browser which is the core. Chromium is open-source while the other 2 are private. You can google Chromium to know more.

This happened to everyone using Windows 10 so don’t feel like you’re alone. The browser isnt bad and I would try it if you are genuinely curious. Its meant to use a lot less ram than Chrome. I’m going to stick with what I know though and continue with Chrome.

This new Edge has a distinct feature where you can “Install this site as an app”, though I do not find it useful.
