I don’t really have a favorite compatriot. We do have men of value, in science, arts and sports alike. I just don’t feel a particular magnetism with any of them

Yes, we have/had many great people.
In sports: Simona Halep, Gheorghe Hagi, Nadia Comăneci, Cătălina Ponor, Iolanda Balaș, Lia Manoliu, Ghiță Mureșan etc etc…
In science: George Emil Palade (Nobel prize in medicine), Ștefan Procopiu, Ana Azlan, Traian Lalescu, Henri Coandă etc.
In arts: George Enescu, Nicolae Grigorescu, Mihai Eminescu, Mircea Eliade, Eugen Ionescu etc etc.
In philosophy: Emil Cioran, Constantin Noica, Andrei Pleșu etc.

I just don’t have an idol among them. My idol is Don Quijote
