My doctor thinks my meds won't help and I'm better off them

I am so surprised. Normally they force me to have meds but she thinks I can do it on my own. She thinks I have a special subset of sz where I am like Deborah Lampshire and don’t have cognitive degeneration. Anyone else?

At the age of 17, she was committed to the former Kingseat Psychiatric Hospital in Karaka, having episodes of psychosis, including hearing voices. She has been in mental health care for 30 years, 18 of those in institutional care.[[3]](Debra Lampshire - Wikipedia) She then began to take charge of her own recovery and has transferred her own experience to educate others.

I’d rather not be like her. That sounds like a tough deal.

But if your psychiatrist is saying you should come off meds it’s always wise to get a 2nd opinion from another psychiatrist.

my pdoc told me i would be on meds for life… that was 10 years ago… but a new dr took me off them… saying that sz wasn’t the right thing to diagnose… but i took the meds for the most part of 10 years … what im saying is … sometimes it takes a while to figure things out for them
