My case manager wants me to be a peer specialist

I was kind of surprised really. She said I would go on outings with clients and maybe a camping trip. I would have the same responsibilities as a normal peer specialist as well. She said I could get on their health care and it had a lot of great benefits. Seems like a lot of people would want to do this job because it doesn’t require a college degree. Seems too good to be true. Who knows maybe I will do this in the future.

is it full time?

She didn’t say if it was full time or part time. I’m assuming it’s full time though.

what about your disability benefits?

I don’t think I would have disability benefits. Just assuming though. It would pay enough with health care benefits.

Proud of you @TheBest.
Best proceed with caution tho. I wouldn’t advise you to actually call social security directly, maybe just explore your options and do what’s best for you.
Always be discreet.

Hey @asgoodasitgets I think it’s possible to become a peer support worker in this area. You work under 16 hours a week and get paid for it. I think you would be great at it!

Thanks @eighteyedspy23 I will keep that in mind.

i’ve been looking for something like that jim but i havent found anything, if you find anything let me know, been trying and trying for ages

@TheBest i wouldn’t advise you to come off benefits, i am trying to be very careful about working and keeping my benefits, its just incase i slide, its precautionary.

I reckon I will be able to get an email for you. My support worker is involved with the team doing it where I live. I think they take applicants over quite a wide geographical area. One guy was from Clydebank and helped folk out in Kilsyth so I reckon you would be allowed too.

Promise I will find something out for you!

that would be great jim thanks, i looked at it online but there was nothing,

maybe i am looking in the wrong places, my support worker mentioned nhs work as possible teps or ips work and they fund our clubhouse so i’m going to research that and other teps/ips opportunities for other members and myself.

I haven’t sent letters out yet or phoned anyone but we will be doing that over time.

Yeah I’ve been to college before @asgoodasitgets. I’ve been to a couple and didn’t graduate.

@TheBest I know of someone who does this kind of job in the UK n the money is not bad plus they really enjoy it. So it really does sound like a good possibility.

My mom wanted me to do this. I would need state certification.
