Motivation

I was wondering if we could do more if we had to. When push comes to shove I can get things done. Like baths for example, I take one before every medical appointment or going out to go shopping. In fact I bathe if I have to go do anything. I don’t have any motivation to do it on the other days, so I don’t. If I want to cook something I can put the effort into cleaning the kitchen because I don’t like cooking in a dirty kitchen. But only if I’m really motivated to cook. So there’s ways to get motivated, it can be done. I just wish it were easier and more consistent. I wonder if we put ourselves in a position where we had to do more if we would rise to the challenge or just fail? I may never know if I don’t push myself.

I try to do something every other day. That way I get a day to basically hibernate but then I have to do something

motivation is hard sometimes, I think your right - it’s easier if you put yourself in a situation where you NEED to do something because others are involved. It’s easier when things are important.

I write lists, sometimes broken down into times. I set alarms on my phone to keep me going.
Sometimes I just challenge myself just to do better than yesterday (cross more off the lists than the day before)- I figure if we can do that eventually we’ll be super motivated and get what we need done.

Yeah it can be hard to feel the motivation to get anything done, but i think, like you, when it comes down to it i can make myself do things when i have to. I have things that i try to do every day, like walk on the treadmill. After walking on the treadmill i am sweaty so i take a shower. It probably wouldn’t be much to an ordinary person but walking on the treadmill and taking a shower seems like a little victory to me.

i was taking a math course online, it was very hard for me to get moving.
so i signed up for a free course where i have to show up to class and do study. it does help give me a kick to get moving. but it still is difficult to study outside of that.

Yeah motivation is a hard one. I don’t cook, and i don’t have much motivation to clean but i’m at least maintaining a surface level standard of cleanliness in the unit i’m currently living in…which was more than what i was doing in the house i previously lived in. When push comes to shove, i definitely can get things done. When we were moving out of our old house and into this unit, i pulled an 8 hour day of non-stop work. If i have to do something, then generally the motivation does at least come. But if given the choice, i find it hard to get engaged sometimes.

Yeah break it down.

I started with a fitness tracker. 10,000 steps a day but exercise is important and that is a good goal. It’s a lot of walking!

I’ve found it’s a thing that improves if you do it. I used to just sit on my ass and watch the world go by but just having a simple goal and following it really does help. Make little plans and tick them off. You move from there!

It does help in the long run. I feel bummed out now if I don’t do my 20,000 steps and lately it’s been hard but I push myself everyday just to do the minimum at least!

I struggle with motivation too. Tend to leave cleaning the house till hubby remarks on it. Do things out of necessity. But I get rare days when I feel motivation, like today as I’m so restless. The weather is hot here by us in Cape Town like summer but it’s still only spring. So I’m feeling restless and have urges to keep busy and yet still struggling to do things.

Avolition sucks!!!
