Might the diagnosis be incorrect? Or am I just lucky?

Am I just lucky i had my last and first psychosis 4 1/2 years ago? Is it because I don’t have schizophrenia? Is it because i have bipolar w/ psychotic features? These are the questions I intend to ask this Thursday… I still feel that my questions haven’t been answered… I accept i have an illness… sometimes i don’t feel normal but I have never had paranoia in all these years maybe a few times but everyone gets paranoid a few times correct???

Hi @anon80629714 - I may have bipolar with psychotic features - the thing is I still can have delusions and am capable of having hallucinations - I may even have some schizophrenia added to the mix - these illness are seldom cut and dry - lots of hybrid illnesses or mixes.
I think that you may have bipolar or you may have bipolar with some SZ - but not enough SZ for a schizoaffective diagnosis - kind of like me I guess.
The diagnosis is not important people tell me - as long as the treatment plan is the correct one - the right meds are vital.
The same meds for SZA are usually the same meds used for bipolar type 1 with psychotic features - so nothing changes really in that arena. I dont know if even getting a second opinion matters so much in your case - as long as the treatment plan is the right one for your symptoms.
I would continue doing what needs to be done, like taking meds - therapy, family support, social outlets, hobbies, eating healthy, exercising etc… In my case at least and probably yours the diagnosis is somewhere in the middle somewhere and getting treated for individual symptoms becomes more key than the diagnosis itself -
Best of luck with everything!

I agree. The terminology they all use…just labels. The same meds are used for multiple titles of an illness, as @Wave said. I don’t know your story so I can’t say that I think you are “xyz”, but I think that you should definitely talk to the doctors to see if the label itself is what’s really bothering you.
