I was given the responsibility of running a MH website to manage and i had some really good ideas that seemed promising, (a hybrid message board) a donations page (KOFI) & i figured i could update it and keep everything running smoothly.
obvs there had to be a problem, something wasnt working properly and i had been trying to fix it to no avail, i am seeing someone with more experience to look at it today.
Looks like the board want to drop me now though & its really upsetting, i feel like i havent had the chance to work on it & now they want to pay someone to run it. i know i am not the best at website management even though i do have some experience its looking like a massive fail atm.
it might be ok now, my friend helped me to figure out what was going on with the map and so i can edit it now i believe, he also said he could help with any problems i might have which was extremely nice of him.
I will look up Groundsite. Don’t feel bad if you got nailed by a popup blocker, it has happened to me too. I suggest adminsitering it using the free Brave browser. It is much more intelligent about what it blocks. I do know Wordpress very well so please hit me up if you’re stuck on something.
Good on you for taking on this project. This is awesome.
Thanks man, I’m just worried they are going to drop me now just as i was solving the problem, i also am delayed even further by some secure file sharing app which is preventing me from accessing the data i need to edit the map now idk if i should just pay the £24.99 to access the cool viewer premium files and i need to make a donate button (the donate button is probably more critical tbh).
Thanks coco, I think I’ll just pay the £24.99 and get access to the info i need to update the map then try and claim it back, i see my friend Adam again on Monday to look at getting the donate button on the menu bar and possibly everywhere else i think is appropriate, i think it should be at the top of every page & as visible as possible. then i’ll ask the board what else they’d like to do and act accordingly and make suggestions, the message board is still a really good idea i think.
It is nice that they allowed me to take this on, i just hope i can convince them that i am good enough to keep on without paying (God knows how much) for another host etc, I was getting the vibe that they had lost confidence in me and were saying ‘its the face of the charity’ so they thought they should spend as much as possible to get it up to scratch,
In my defence i told them i had updated it and the only problem was the map but i solved that now & i have someone helping me with it who is a professional, i just wish they sent me an email with a to do list bc that would have been extremely helpful.
Damn, i just paid it and the friggin file was empty, I’m thinking of just using the details from the US region as its more up to date anyway i think, what a waste of money
fk it, i just started updating the info from the worldwide directory, its 93 ish places onto an excel file, I’m on number 6 now after 30mins, i will get satisfaction after this and i really hope they don’t bin me off I’d like to be useful for once in my life lol.
Look at it this way: you did everything possible to remedy the situation.
That’s something to be proud of
Regarding the donate button, I don’t like using sites that put that everywhere. I always feel like it’s just a scam taking mg money. Just food for thought
I’m impressed by how hard you’re working. Good job!
Damn, looks like i’m being kicked off the website management, she has another professional that is willing to help with it, its a bit upsetting but its not in my control, i tried my best, i could have made this work but now it looks like i cant do it, it doesnt help when the support i had from my mental health charity is now denying they ever knew i was on the board and doesnt want to support me with it at all, i am doing this individually now its sad but, meh.
Good news, it looks like there’s been a rethink and we are back on track, i am allowed to recommence with the website management and i will be getting more support with it also a sthere will be a team of people on it i am very happy about this.
It was a really good board meeting tonight, feels like things are starting to move, we are due a vote next year & i am hoping i get to stay on the board, i feel like i am making good contributions but its out of my hands, i just need to keep trying to do what i can for them.
I was actually asked to be team leader of the website management and i said we could all do it then i had to think about it, i was in the bath and i thought to myself ‘you can do it’ so i just sent a detailed email asking if its still possible and with a question as well. I think a team like that would need a strong leadership.
I had another Brainwave in the bath about asking someone to help on the board with finances, she has been on the board before in the past before video conferences when they met in person & she has been doing finances with our mental health charity board for 1.5 yrs, it seems ideal as we are all going to be dropped after the merger goes through, she’s in retirement anyway. I hope she agrees.
I just updated the map on the website i am tending to, i am in the process of seeking to add a Ko-Fi Button which would be linked to PayPal/Stripe, its a great opportunity to help with the website, i will be calling on my friend Adam for some insight again once we have the button ready to go, i know how to place the Ko-Fi button but I’d like to place it at the top on the menu bar.
I also sent in a large article about my time at the training and study visits
for the newsletter which will be out soon, Its a yearly magazine & i am pushing for a quarterly publication & for it to feature on the website.
I am still very keen on adding a message board to the website, does anyone think a message board is a good idea for a website?
