Experts analysed blood samples taken from 110,780 people and looked for 168 markers called metabolites, substances in the body related to the metabolism.
Studies have linked changes in the body’s metabolites to the ageing process, with certain types found to decrease as people get older.
The researchers then linked this with health information linking to the participants’ mental illness diagnosis.
Dr Mutz said: 'It is now possible to predict people’s age from blood metabolites.
‘We found that, on average, those who had a lifetime history of mental illness had a metabolite profile which implied they were older than their actual age.’
Weird. I’m 35 and get told i look like in my early 20s. Even after smoking for 10 years. Once when i was 19 i walked past a middle school and got caught by a teacher. She took me to the office for ditching lol
A beard tends to age a man, especially if it is grey…
‘Just for men’ or its ilk could take a decade off perhaps. I think you can just use it as shampoo and it gradually changes the tone over several washes.
I shave my bald head completely and it helps to deage me, or at least make it difficult to age me at least. I do have white/grey in my vandyke goatee though.
The psych nurse says i look young for my age. Age 50. My bioimpedence weighing scales has me pegged as younger than my actual age now though, so that is good being that my weight is good, visceral fat around my organs low etc. That is more important than my looks.
I just do 100 press ups every morning as my exercise. I may do some pilates in the summer.
