I got up early to go grocery shopping and before I went in the store I noticed a homeless guy sleeping in the parking lot. I was just thinking yesterday on how I don’t see many homeless people around here anymore. I decided I would give him some food so I shopped for what I came for and then I picked up a sandwich and some other food to give to the homeless guy. I got outside and he was still there so I drove over, rolled down my window and asked him if he was hungry. I probably should have said hello first, I guess. The guy looked at me and said no. I told him the food was fresh, i just bought it. He still hesitated but he got up. I said, “check it out” and he finally smiled and took it. I drove off feeling a little better but he was the second homeless guy who almost refused food from me. IDK what it is about me that someone living on the streets would not want food from me.
They could be homeless due to mental illness and could be paranoid.
id just be wary if i were them.
Who knows, I wouldn’t take it personally as you seem to be. Homeless guy probably isn’t there because he makes decisions in his best interest, I know I didn’t when I was. I wouldn’t try to deconstruct his decision making process.
I used to do that when I worked in the city
they know where to get food.
I worked many of em.
yeah, should have started conversation.
but what would be your first thing to say or ask.
I usually just listen.
came up to me, homeless guy on the street,
downtown Davenport, tells me a guy just slapped me
across the face, but didn’t want it reported,
so gave him 300 bucks.
he didn’t like my response, like why would he hit you, and walked away.
