I am pretty good at Mario Kart 8 for Switch. I have gotten 1st (Gold) like 30 times out of like 120 online games. I’m scared to play more because I don’t want to ruin a good record.

i am downloading it now, been a while since ive played any nintendo game as i havent played a nintendo system since the 3ds was just coming out

If you wanna compete you gotta master the manual boosting, you hold down right shoulder button to skid and while skidding you alternate from turning into and out of the skid until the fire under your tires goes from orange to blue and eventually purple. Some tracks have turns where you can get a purple boost, and if not they definitely have several blue ones and you should be able to get at least an orange boost out of every single turn.
Also when you’re in first it’s good to get a shell and hold it behind you by holding down and not releasing the use item button. This guards against red and green shells by acting like a shield. Also the only thing that can stop the spiky blue leader shell from hitting you is the speakerbox, if you time it right just as the shell is swirling above your head about to hit.
Fun game with a lot of little nuances!
