I thought I would always prefer a female to a male pdoc because of the phenomenon of transference. I was afraid the transference would be so strong I would hurt my pdoc. That’s why I never really opened up with a male pdoc. I have come across female pdoc’s that didn’t work for me too. I think Freud would say I’m the type of person who is not likely to benefit from psychotherapy.

I’ve been in therapy for short periods of time with a couple of male therapists. One of them I liked, and one I didn’t. In both cases I was afraid to get down to some of the major things that were bothering me. I’ve never been in psychotherapy with a female. I’d probably take a lot of baggage into that situation too.
I don’t want a man hearing about my problems it would feel weird.
A woman’s touch is what I need.
