i was taking olanzapine (zyprexa) 10mg/day for about 3 months and i gained significant weight about 17kg then i stopped it and took supplements and succeeded to lose 10kg then i began to use lurasidone (latuda) i have read that it has low risk to increase weight after few months i noticed increase in my body weight about 5kg is this due to lurasidone use? or maybe its a weight loss rebound unrelated to lurasidone? anyone using lurasidone noticed any weight gain? what is your strategy to reduce or at least maintaining your body weight?
How after you ensuring you’re getting that 300 calories or whatever they number is when you take it? After you taking it with a meal or a snack specific for your meds?
Because if you’re taking it with a snack, I would blame that first.
I didn’t have a huge appetite on Latuda. I don’t remember being abnormally hungry. I’m back in zyprexa but on a lower dose than I once took and an appetite suppressant, in the drug lybalvi.
I lost weight on Lurisadone
Everyone is different though
latuda must be taken with food(researches confirming that) at least 350 calorie and i do take it after dinner meal meal to improve absorption does this influence body weight?
while i was on olanzapine i was starving all the time (hyperphagia) after switching to lurasidone my appetite is normal now but i have doubts if lurasidone cause metabolic dysfunction or not
No, I’m asking if you take it with dinner or if you’re eating an extra 350 calories in addition to dinner when you take it. Because if you’re eating and extra 350 calories every day to meet that requirement that could pretty easily explain the weight gain.
That being said, I gained a LOT of weight on latuda. It was one of the worst for weight gain for me.
i dont count the calorie i take but my appetite is the same as before weight gain. lurasidone have no affinity to h1 receptor and 5ht2c receptor which are responsible for weight gain. its so Mystifying what makes it cause weight gain?what is the mechanism to counteract it
Every ap has weight gain, some people are more prone to it. This is because every ap blocks d2 receptors. You can try taking weight loss probiotics or injection ap(studies show that injection causes less weight gain) I am currently planning to try lamictal
typical antipsychotic block d2 more potent than atypical antipsychotics and doesn’t cause weight gain or high blood glucose. i have tried typical antipsychotic and didnt have any problem regarding my body weight. regarding the injection i didnt try it and dont know if it will make difference and also from people who tried it suffer from painful sensation and i dont want to experience that sensation.
interesting ,i didnt know that i have searched and found more researches about that topic. but if this true why typical antipsychotic doesn’t increase body weight? any idea?
No I lost weight but got off the med because some of the side effects had to be stopped.
They do cause weight gain, maybe you are on it for too short term so you don’t realize the weight gain
oh i see even typical antipsychotic cause weight gain in prolonged use. i dont want to bother you but in this research there is exception in some medications regarding antipsychotic induce weight gain for prolonged use why is that? maybe it differs from person to another? maybe genetics play a role in this? any idea?
That’s so annoyingly that you must eat to get your meds working. I took 1000 kcal to my grodon to keep it working. I quit geodon 160 mgs half a yesr ago and I’m so pleased with that.
In this research there is no exception, only some ap such as ziprasidone and abilify has non significant weight gain which is still weight gain,if you google weight gain for those 2 ap, you will find a lot of research on them
See for yourself, as for how much weight you gain, it’s a mixture of genetics and lifestyle
I gained weight on latuda.
I eat so little and healthy and I exercise every day and I’m still a little overweight.
I want to lose 7 kg but it hasn’t happened.
Only time I lost weight on latuda was when I starved myself.
The dietitian said I was malnourished.
I try so hard to lose weight but my weight has been same.
It’s disappointing when you think you work so hard to lose weight and don’t.
Only thing that works for me is starving myself and being malnourished.
But that’s not healthy either but I look better physically when I starve myself but i don’t feel better.
Caplyta is good for weight. Geodon was weight neutral for me.
