What is everyone’s experience with lithium? My Pdoc just raised my dose from 600mg to 1200 mg due to my manic episodes I’m having. I’ve gone 4 days without more than 2-3 hours of sleep a night. My body is exhausted but my brain isn’t
Lithium is a very good drug ……it can cause thyroid problems though and in long term kidney issues ….be sure to get lab done every three months to keep a check ……
Lithium did very little for my mania but it did manage to give me hypothyroidism and diabetes.
It used to be popular decades ago but today it’s rarely prescribed because of the severe side effects
More modern mood stabilizers with less side effects have replaced lithium.
Drugs like Lamictal come to mind
I was on lithium years ago and it controlled my mania pretty well. I did not do well on Lamictal, my psychiatrist told me we could up my antipsychotics but I really don’t want to because my AP is Loxapine and it’s given me TD
I never had bipolar but some idiot doctors put me on it.
Was poison. I think my thyroid is Ok though.
Idk what else you can take for mania.
What do you mean it’s poison? That’s concerning
Sorry, not literally; just the way it damages the thyroid.
Lithium didn’t do jack squat for me the many years I was on it. And I wasn’t even manic. I was depressed and suicidal. And it permanently damaged my thyroid.
I think atypical AP’s are much better at managing mood.
I’m already on Geodon and Loxapine and was still having manic episodes monthly
