I’ve been trying to like jazz for 20 years. When I was in high school I was one of 3 guitar players at the school who were really dedicated to the craft. One of the 3 of us was essentially a prodigy. Essentially every moment he was awake he was playing or thinking about music. Me and the other guy looked up to him a lot. Well mr. Prodigy ended up getting super into jazz and him and the other guy started playing it all the time. I tried my damndest to learn how to appreciate the music but just could never get all that into it. Jazz is a lot like anime for me, I’ve got a handful of things I really like but I’m never going to be a weeb. I like it but I’m never gonna love it. That being said ■■■■■■■ Brew is an amazing album, Herbie Handcock and the headhunters is another great, then there’s an album called looking at bird with Archie Shepp that is just amazing.

I think maybe you still trying to look at it from the point of a guitar player trying to play it? Like work, in a cerebral way?

I didn’t like it that much until I realized that it was the “hip” music back in the days lol. I needed to take a step back and listen to it without my own prejudices…

Looking at bird is the duo album! Great stuff

Sorry, but I find alot of jazz to be boring music to listen to. Sort of a lounge music meets elevator music vibe. I listened to snippets of a few jazz selections on this thread and am ready for a nap at this point. The inclination to want to nap may also be because I just ate lunch.

I had delusions with this album when psychotic. Thought the instruments were talking to me and about me.

M.I. + police brutality for beeing black (head concussion and a broken wrist which ■■■■■■ up his piano playing ability). In that time they used lobotomy and electroshock therapy as well.

Still the best.
