I’ve been trying to like jazz for 20 years. When I was in high school I was one of 3 guitar players at the school who were really dedicated to the craft. One of the 3 of us was essentially a prodigy. Essentially every moment he was awake he was playing or thinking about music. Me and the other guy looked up to him a lot. Well mr. Prodigy ended up getting super into jazz and him and the other guy started playing it all the time. I tried my damndest to learn how to appreciate the music but just could never get all that into it. Jazz is a lot like anime for me, I’ve got a handful of things I really like but I’m never going to be a weeb. I like it but I’m never gonna love it. That being said ■■■■■■■ Brew is an amazing album, Herbie Handcock and the headhunters is another great, then there’s an album called looking at bird with Archie Shepp that is just amazing.
I think maybe you still trying to look at it from the point of a guitar player trying to play it? Like work, in a cerebral way?
I didn’t like it that much until I realized that it was the “hip” music back in the days lol. I needed to take a step back and listen to it without my own prejudices…
Looking at bird is the duo album! Great stuff
Sorry, but I find alot of jazz to be boring music to listen to. Sort of a lounge music meets elevator music vibe. I listened to snippets of a few jazz selections on this thread and am ready for a nap at this point. The inclination to want to nap may also be because I just ate lunch.
All good Ms. Moonbeam. I was asking why you like or why you don’t like this music
This is my thread from 2019…
Oh lol I remember! I posted there lol… 5 years? Damnn
Seems like posts from yt dissapeared…
First song was Bill Evans I remember
Classic jam session tune lol

Trumphet: Miles,Clifford Brown…
Sax:Coltrane,Marsalis,Paul Desmond (take five is his song acreditated to dave brubeck )
Piano:Bill Evans
Art Blakey,Cannonbal Aderrly (with Miles)…
My decision is always Miles (classics before fusion)
I’ll give you mine
Trumpet: Chet, Tom Harrell, Miles (allthough they say Clifford was the best to ever do it)
Sax: J.C., Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson
Piano: I don’t like Bill too much . Bud Powell, Hank Jones. McCoy, Chick, Keith Jarrett
Drums: I like more modern drummers, Tony Williams, Marcus Gilmore, Roy Haynes, Tain Watts
I had delusions with this album when psychotic. Thought the instruments were talking to me and about me.
favorite jazz pianist. also he is schizophrenic and was subjected to shock treatments when they were in early stages of medical practice
You have good taste
M.I. + police brutality for beeing black (head concussion and a broken wrist which ■■■■■■ up his piano playing ability). In that time they used lobotomy and electroshock therapy as well.
Still the best.
