Every time I go to the doctor I have to do a depression questionnaire. Ever since I was asked to do an iq test and did poorly on it, the dr assistant always asks if I have a learning disability and I always say yes.
Why do they do that?

They just want to give you a most thorough dx set as possible so that they can give u the right treatment n refer u to the right teams
My PCP does a depression and anxiety screening at every appointment for everyone over the age of 12ish? I think? I don’t remember exactly because it’s been awhile since I asked about it. But it’s just standard check-in paperwork at that office. I think it’s a good thing.
Are you in the UK or USA or elsewhere? They mean different things in the UK vs USA.
fortunately I’m in the USA. If I was in the UK, I would have been sectioned a few times.
i didn’t use to get those things but I get a questionnaire every time I make an appointment for anything and most people don’t. I think it’s annoying.
I never would have gotten diagnosed with anything if I had never filled out that automated questionnaire in the first place.
Learning disability in the USA is not low IQ , but is about a child/adult with average or above Intelligence who has a deficit in an area of cognition .
Learning disability in UK = IQ <75 USA equivalent = intellectual disability
I got adhd, but the doctors refuse to give me the right medication. Would love to get a certificate in something. In Germany i made myself few certificates, but i was on homeopathy back then. I had a brilliant doctor back than.
firemonkey is right. Learning disability has different meanings in the U.K and USA.
I’m from the U.K. I have a diagnosis of learning disabilities - intellectual disability… I scored 69 on a standardised I.Q test… The I.Q test is called the Wechsler (WAIS- *III) They use this I.Q test on death row inmates and is also widely used in the U.K.
Because I have a diagnosed learning disability I get specialist mental health input from from the intellectual disability. When I get sectioned I go to a specialist hospital. This hospital is better then mental health generic services, more holistic and caring.
I also live in supported housing.
Also because of my LD it also helps towards being awarded disability benefits. Having the LD helped me securing them better then the SZA… My community nurse wrote in the assessment evidence letter that because of my learning disability it’s hard for me to retain information. This is why coping strategies don’t always work.
I was given a suprise iq test and did not do well at it. The ‘problem solving’ part is what got me. So now I’m flagged. I’m glad you get better treatment and are okay with that. I would prefer they treat me normally but they don’t anymore.
I did the wais and got high results in everything except processing speed, which is far below average.
I guess I just think slower than most.
I’ve just looked at what I posted, and I should have put IQ <70 for learning disability in the UK.
