I wonder if it’s happening in people who take Mounjaro, too? I take Mounjaro and don’t want to go blind…
I’d like to know how many of these cases are diabetics? My mom’s retinas detached if she sneezed too hard. Not kidding, this really happened a couple of times. It eventually left her completely blind. Diabetic retinopathy. I can see this drug taking something that is already compromised and adding to it.
Last paragraph in article:
One study published in January in JAMA Ophthalmology examined nine patients who had vision complications while on drugs containing semaglutide or tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound. Out of the nine patients, seven had the vision condition.
Supposedly eats away at lean mass too. (Decreases muscle tone).
Not if you exercise. I’m adding lean mass.
It is , it has the same mechanism and more so likelihood of the side effects happening is high
I have said it before, and I’ll say it again : “I do not trust newer drugs”. You never know what side effects they my have over the long term. The only newer drug im on is jardiance, and even that makes me wary.
I prefer to let other people grow the third eyeball. I sit and wait for a few years to make sure there are no major side effects coming.
I am sorry to all those that are on these drugs if it makes you worry now. I dont know if this is a real side effect or not, but I certainly can understand how it could be a disturbing thing to hear when you are relying on it to keep the weight off.
I was on Ozempic and quit it due to other side effects and the fact that I dont like being a guinea pig.
I’m less worried about the potential side-effects of Wegovy than I am of the certain additional wear and tear the pericardial fat envelope around my weaked heart is causing it. This is why I have several doctors on my arse about losing weight. What I am most scared of is how I will maintain the target weight once I am off the weight loss meds and my normal appetite returns. I’ll be miserably hungry all the time again.
yeah, i definitely understand the need for weight loss drugs in certain cases. Its a shame they may have this severe of a side effect.
As someone who is taking Zepbound, this is not welcome news
I do wonder, as @shutterbug mentioned, the rate of comorbidity in these cases.
I have had great results with Zepbound. 39 pounds down in a little under six months. Only side effect has been stomach pain when upping the dose.
My thoughts exactly @shutterbug.
Blind or fat , choose 1, doesnt seem like a good choice either way
I hear that when you go off the GLP1 drugs, your appetite returns with an even more terrible vengeance. So, there’s that, and the blindness issue.
too riskied for me to take it, i prefer to continue my regimen and my sport
.
Not worried about blindness at all. I am worried about my normal appetite coming back, although I can’t imagine how it will be much worse. It has been bad ever since Zyprexa screwed with my system. I had a normal appetite before going on APs. After being on APs I can salivate while looking at a bag of cardboard shred.
Not as risky as having CCTGA and carrying substantial pericardial fat around.
Your doing exceptionally well at losing weight and moving more. Are you finding it easier to do activities like your sports/hobbies now youve lost so much weight? I think hopefully you will do okay if you keep active the weight should stay off.
Haven’t been able to start that yet. I can tell you that my arms are half dead from stripping old caulking out of the seams on the trailer today.
