I want to take Latuda but I am scared that it will change my brain permanently. What happens take the drug for a few months and then stop taking it? Will my brain go back to how it was previously or is there a permanent structural brain change that lasts forever?
Well TBH I have no idea with you to answer your question.
But the brain changes shape over time naturally anyways (without drugs) “neuroplastisity”
If the drug interests you I wouldn’t care about the possibility of your brain changing shape. Even if it did who is gonna know?
I took Latuda for about four years. I switched to zyprexa, a very low dose. Latuda was good for awhile but you know how these meds go good for awhile then bad. You have nothing to worry about. Seroquel must be the most potent medicine I’ve ever taken. Maybe I’ve got a sensitivity.
I took Latuda for 9 years. I can and did worry about the effect on my brain. More importantly, is the Latuda still working? Any of the antipsychotics might be affecting our brains adversely!!??
Permanent brain changes are debated but in my opinion likely. Whether or not that is a good or bad thing is an entirely different question. I get that antipsychotics are handed out like but candy but anyone taking them, it’s proably going to be for a good/serious reason. That in mind if there is something ‘broken’ with your brain that you need medication then just maybe it will change your brain in way that fixes it. Regardless of whether or not that is true, that’s what we hope! It is imporant to rationalise, being functional (stable) is more important then wheather or not you need medication. While demonstration of adverse long term effects can’t be proven these drugs will continue to be prescribe by the medical establishment. Thank god these drugs exist though can you imagine recoverying without it? Probably not worth stressing yourself out about unproven questions in science.
thank you for your answers, it has really helped me
